History 50's Glendale trivia question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Texas57, Mar 17, 2019.

  1. A 57 Ford forum member from Austria recently acquired a 55-56-57 Ford chassis manual. The ink stamp on the covers is barely legible, but they did figure out it was Brand Blvd, in Glendale, Ca. The dealership name may have ended in ".........Motors.
So, somebody here, I'm sure, will remember who the Ford dealership there was in the mid-late 50's
I did tell him the Hamb had to be the worlds best automotive trivia source.

  3. The above location is in San Fernando, wrong city, but possibly they had another location in Glendale?

    Hey T,
Check out the two links above. That should get you started in your search. Most are gone, but some are still around with many generations of families continuing to run the dealerships. It is the same in the Long Beach, CA area. Some families have sold their name and dealerships, while others have continued the history.

We went to school with the Browning Olds family members in Long Beach. So, one of those contacts in the big list could be of help.

The City of Glendale did have a large number of car dealerships along Brand Blvd. It was called the "Blvd of cars" in one. Maybe Los Felis Ford?

There's still a Ford dealership on Brand Blvd. in Glendale, but the name has probably changed a half-dozen times since the fifties. Brand Blvd. is a very long street, and dissects a few towns. Glendale city limits have changed too, and the "borders" have also been redrawn.
Galpin Ford is pretty far from that area of the Valley.

Los Feliz Ford is now named Star Ford, and is located on Brand.

  10. A picture of an old license plate that was purchased in Pomona was posted on the '57 Fordsforever forum.
California Motors up top with 2 ford logos, and Glendale on the bottom. The op thought the manual's stamping possibly might have said California Motors, but at that point it was just a wild guess, and nobody seemed to remember that name.
