It has a 15,000 pound rear axle from the factory. It actually rode pretty nice with 6,000 pounds or so of gravel on it. That poor bed.

Cool truck. Is that sun visor for that model or will it fit others? What is the brand?

I recently picked up a 1951 international L-130 that had been sitting in a farmers field under an old oak tree for 30+ Years. I’m currently going through the brake system, pulled the fuel tank and it’s off getting boiled. And am in the process of rebuilding the Silver diamond 220 engine . With plans to do a 12volt conversion in the near future along with fabricating a new flatbed.
My dilemma is... I can not seem to find anything on what the correct carburetor would be, or what would best suite my needs .
After pulling off the carb I have come to the conclusion that it has a zenith 28/228 . From what I can gather it should of had a carter carb or Holley from the factory, and that the zenith was found on earlier KB models . Curious if anyone knows the specific model carb I should be looking for ,
it had what I can only describe as a “very interesting carb setup”.
Hoping a international guru will chime in here,
As the truck was produced 41 years before I was born and information is limited to what I can find on the internet.
    Thanks all -jake

The 1951 SD-220 COULD have been equipped with a Zenith type 228 tag number 10794 from the factory. Zenith carburetors of this period were identified by a round tag riveted to the body of the carburetor.

There would be two sets of identification numbers on the tag. The outer set of numbers would be the O.E. (in this case - IHC) part number, with the inner set of numbers being the Zenith number.

The other application would have been a Carter type YF numbers 735s.

There was a second Carter used for high altitude, and an updraft Zenith used for C.O.E. applications.

According to the Holley literature, no Holley was used in 1951 on the SD-220.

The Zenith type 228 is an excellent carb; would suggest you rebuild it, if it is the correct number.

    Jon.

BTW registered mostly for this thread. I’ve enjoyed the old time feel of my binder for long enough and going the custom route now. Pulled it into barn yesterday ( Literally, used a come along) solo mechanic here .Spent the day before reading all 22 pages of this thread and look forward to any input provided.

Bumping this thread up - picking up a 1967 1100B here shortly and always looking to see what others have done.

Google Binder Planet it's a forum dedicated to IH trucks and pickups ( as we all know IH never built pickups only small trucks )

Simply amazing that I happened to stumble onto this particular thread. Even though I have only been on the HAMB for a couple of years, I had no idea that there were fellow " Cornbinder " fanatics lurking deep in the threads of this website.
22 pages and no one has posted the elusive 56 IHC S-110 retired Bell Telephone line service truck, with the body built by the Hi-Way MFG Co. I had one when I got out of the army in 75, and I wish I had never sold it, of all of the vehicles I have owned over the years, it was the most fun and most practical, for a lot of good reasons.

I love that cool unmistakable ( VOODOO -TIKI ) face of the 56 grille, it appears a lot of others on this thread love that model face and year as well !

I had bought it from my dads wrecking yard, it was an abandoned vehicle, and I could get it for $100.00, it just needed to have a new rope seal ( rear main seal ) put in and it was good to go, the interior was in mint condition. I cut all of the shelving out of it and made it into a rig that I could carry stuff in and lock the doors. It was far better than the terrible 59 MGA roadster I had just driven cross country from Fort Sill Oklahoma, back to the San Joaquin valley in California, ( Merced and Atwater area ).

Years later, I bought a cool 55 S-110 that had a cool home made enclosure on the back that I drove for a number of years, I sold it to a friend that still has it.

Years later, I invested in this cool 46 IHC KB-5 firetruck had to give $3000.00 just to buy it, it was all functional and was all stock and ran great, little did I know that I would sink 30 K into this rig and even have a trailer built for it after driving it cross country and back, 3 separate times, the stiff suspension made it easy to decide to have a trailer built for it.

I modified it to be a display rig for my artwork ( T-Shirts ). I had a lot of fun with it, but wait, there is more insanity!

I later on invested in this 66 factory built IHC Travelall ambulance, bought it for $3000.00 and it soaked up 17 K, on modifications for it as well. I drove it cross country from Seattle to Oshkosh and back, the 500 CI Caddy V-8 I put in it, loved to drink gas, no secret there! So cool that there are others here on the HAMB, that can appreciate the fine products manufactured by the workers of the Fort Wayne Indiana factory!

Pictures below are when I had it out at the Seaplane base, out on Lake Winnebago during the fly in at OSHKOSH Wisconsin. Ardy and Eds is a famous, favorite cool drive in there in Oshkosh.

I am looking forward to communicating with other IHC owners and builders. When we get relocated to where our new residence will be in SoCal, I will be on the hunt again for another cool 56 IHC retired Bell Telephone line service rig, like this one pictured here !

Just a little up date on our future, I persuaded my lovely wife, to NOT relocate to SoCal, so we are currently looking for property over in Port Townsend Washington! She likes it over there and so do I !

Hey I'm picking up a 50's IH truck next week. I cant tell you anything about it. All I know is that this truck is in Maine, and they just sold the property where this truck is - so they need it gone ASAP. I will get some pics.

Does anyone know what the OEM wheel size is on a 50's IH pickup? I'm going to pick up some used tires to take with me - along with my air compressor & impact.

So the 50's 1/2 ton pickups were all 5 lug on 5.5 pattern? Not sure if its a long bed if it makes a difference

I have time to pick up 2 used rims & tires. I can dolly it home if that's the case

    Thanks!!!

This one is mine! I bought the shell while I was on holiday in Florida 1997 ! It Came originally from Jarret Loop in Edyville Kentucky and was a plumbing company truck.Shipped it back to Scotland and built a full airbag(I know it is OT) system, dropped a Nova clip and rear axle on it then shoved in a built 327 SB .Currently used for daily tip runs and builders yard runs -picture added is very recent trykk.jpg
