I spotted a very solid and reasonably complete 50 merc two door at an estate sale this morning. I have no connection to this other than living 2 miles away. It appears to be be rust free or close to it. Mostly stock except shaved door handles and a hokey R&P installation. I'm under the impression it can be had for 8-10k. If you’re interested PM me for contact#. Car is in Chesterton Indiana area.
It may well be a 49, I don't know mercs very well. The friend of the family told me it was a 50. He may have been thinking of the one next to it. It did have another style dash in the front seat.
After a quick google search, I believe it has a 50-51 dash on the front seat. They said it has a title so that would clarify the year if anybody follows up on it.
That wouldn't be the first '50 Merc to have been built with a mixture of '49 - '50 parts .... there was a 4 door '50 here in town with pull door handles & a 3 piece backlight.
The 49 dash wouldn't be a big deal. There are some guys who like it better than the 50/51 dash. Pretty straight looking car and if you like black that may be a value for the $$ adder right there. Front wheel looks like it has a smaller than 5 on 5-1/2 lug pattern though.
