50-51 merc speedo cable adapter

    Alright wise gentlemen i got a 51 mercury and wondering what you guys did when adapting a different trans to work with the factory speedo... i have a cad500+cad th400 if it makes a difference in answering the mystery question..

    If the TH400 has a mechanical drive connection for the speedo cable just hook up the stock Merc one if it will reach. American standard speedo connection at the trans is a 7/8th thread male with a .104 square hole for the cable. Later Fords for one used a large end on the cable that plugged directly into the trans. Late 60s early 70s Chevy P/Us used a cable that had the needed ends and was normally long enough for most apps.

    oh ok gotcha... i have a extra 68 c10 cable @ 83"... thanks for the info, didnt know it was a standard thread
