49 vs 50 Ford Trunk Hinges

Ok...so I am going to play the newby card and since the search function owned me and I couldnt find a definitive answer to my search question...I am going to throw this one out there to find out for certain amongst the many, many knowledgeable people here on the HAMB.

One of my trunk hinges on my 49 Ford Business Coupe decided to take early retirement and I have a good lead on a set of 50 Ford Coupe trunk hinges.

My question is this. Are there any differences between the two years, if so can I still use the 50 Ford hinges and replace both 49's on mine?

Why not buy a new set of 49 hinges from Dennis Carpenter? Other than the look of the hinges, I believe they are the same.

 

Because I didnt know that Dennis Carpenter carried new hinges for the 49....does he have a website of contact info?

Also....still looking for an answer for my original question.

 

The 49 hinges look a little shorter than the 50 hinges and are a different design. I don't know if they will bolt up from one year to the other.

My opinion is try and find a set of originals. The repops are okay I guess, some of them, but if you can get originals that is the way to go IMHO. I always thought the 49 and 50 interchanged but could be wrong. I have a buddy that had a nice set so if you don't find anything PM me and I will get you his info.

 

I try to stay away from Repop stuff as best as I can....ill PM you for that info.

Shoebox fords might be able to get you taken care of, they have a ton of parts cars. I believe that they will bolt right up. I replaced the ones off my 49 with new ones from a 50 (cooler looking) and bolted right up..........Kyle

 

Whatever. I didnt read the thread but the car in your avitar kicks ass.

 

49 and 50 hinges will fit the same holes. 51s had spring loaded hinges inside the trunk. in my opinion the 49s look best. the 50s are bulky.

Dennis-Carpenter will have them as well as Mac's Antique Auto Parts.

Parts from C&G are usually the same damn thing as what Dennis-Carpenter has....only they take forever to get you your stuff.

 

I think for now I plan on getting the set of 50 hinges as it is a good price...but will search for 49's to replace the 50's when money permits.
