Is there any difference between a 1951 and a 1954 chevy frame as far as the rails and the body mounts are concerned. Not really concerned with the front suspension just whether you can bolt a 1951 body onto a 1954 chevy frame.
They are all the same other than the convertable. Might be a differance with trans x-members based on powerglide or not. but the body mounts and frames are all the same. convertable is different.
Thanks much was pretty sure they were just wanting to be absolutly for sure before i started on the later frame again thanks a bunch
You mentioned convertibles, what about hardtops? I head those had the same frame setup as conv, is that right?
The shop manual that I have only states a difference in the convertible. The other frames seem to all the same with only minor differences for different options. So all the full roof cars ie sedans and sport roofs, should be very similar with no major defenses that would cause a problem with a frame swap.
i do believe the 53-54 frames also have the extra piece inside. found this out the hard way when dad cut the rear of his frame off on a custom truck build (36 chevy truck mounted on the 53 hardtop frame). made the cut, saw the extra piece for strength, and knew right away we made a mistake! otherwise, identical.
I wonder if the convertible frame would be stiffer enough to help enough with handling to offset the weight penalty, if you used one on a car with a fixed roof?
