Sadly the flat six and three speed are going. 302, 5 speed option is the plan of attack!

I know everyone says you can’t get parts for a 7HA, but I rebuilt one recently. With the 411 rear end it will lite the tires, with a 378 rear end its a fast lane cruiser for as far as you want to drive it (without the overdrive working) Runs smooth and quite, never overheats. In short they were a great engine for their time, in many ways better than the 8BA. All that to say do what makes you happy.

Good plan with the 302 and 5 speed. My son and I did this one over a weekend at my house (3 car garage and all my tools...)
Clutch was supposed to present a problem...a magazine article directed him to TCI (on the East coast)
The "tech" (LOL) assured us we would HAVE to use their 'kit' for clutch hookup, they had researched and there was NO WAY other than their $275.00 kit.
We went to Pick-n-Pull, absconded with the complete clutch cable from an '89 Mustang. Square hole in firewall, (and a 3/16" thick 'pad' for reinforcement at the square holes) welded it on.
Made a tab bracket for the clutch pedal, very close to cat walk in front of windshield. (Bracket was 1.5" long, hole for cable clevis was 1" above pedal boss.)
Cable slid right thru the cast boss on the 302 block. Worked perfect, he could power shift it as if he wasn't trying!
His 302 was a factory rebuild, 303 cam (Highway Patrol Interceptor Mustang type)
We added a new Edelbrock intake, 2 600s, MSD ignition, Mustang factory tube headers. 8" rear, 3.54.
First time out turned low 13s, car was a bomb!
Critics looked at it, said it was 'so over-carbureted it wouldn't drive on the street!'
He laughed...Car would idle thru parking lots, idled at 850-900 RPM, amazing what a little 'tuning' will do.
I've installed SBCs in shoeboxes, surprised myself with the first one: there were magazine articles directing the use of a dropped centerlink in the steering linkage.
I was all set to do anything necessary to modify the steering for a good fit...
Surprise, engine dropped right in, cleared everything. Magic swap!
One of my favorites, although I hate the trunions and king pins in the front suspension...

Found a battle scar, looks like might have had a run in at some point. 20190622_184948.jpeg

  8. Better, overall picture would tell more but it does appear to be I front of any suspension point so an alignment after repair would not even be necessary.

Yeah, like warsehorseracing said, its on the front side so it doesnt mess the suspension alignment. I think you should get a frame blueprint and take some measurements and compare them. That may effect the how the front end tins and bumper fits. Ofcourse those never fit how they are supposed, but that could make your life easier when the frame is straight.

    Be very selective choosing a T5. I installed a T5 from a 87 S10 in my 51.
I can't get across the intersection with having to shift to second. The first gear is to low. I didn't consider first gear, all I thought about was getting 5th gear for highway driving (4:11 rear end). Also you will have difficulty with clutch linkage. Here's picture of mine and I hate it (going to cable if I can ). Good luck.

Did some more pressure washing and scrubbing, looks like someone before me welded the damage in place. I hosed all of the suspension bolts and nuts down with penetrating oil and let it set overnight then hosed it down again. Could only get a couple to budge using my harbor freight breaker bar. I put an impact wrench where I could reach with the same result. I'm thinking I will go with a Jimenez Brothers front clip and two link rear end and make my life a little easier.

  20. Hey, parabola, if you are planning to lower your baby very much, consider modifying/trimming back and patching the bottoms of the fresh air ducts in the inner fenders so when you hit a dip, the tires won't go "blam" ...ask me how I know. GRRRR.

Looked for 50/51 hinges. Seems like they're pretty rare. For now I'm stuck with what I have
