There is a hole in the center of the top of the cab. It has a sort of bracket spot welded underneath the hole. Its been there as long as I can remember, about 45 years. It used to have a wooden plug in it. The wood gave up.

Is there any way this is a factory hole? For what?

That's a super rare Ford "Grain Storage Bin" option. Yours sounds like it's missing the original flip cap.

Did you find any wheat, corn or beans in the cab?

I thought maybe spotlight hole myself. Dad says he doesn't remember. The spot welded bracket on the inside of the cab under the hole is what has me stumped otherwise I would guess some sort of light or farmer invention.

    Anybody else got a 48-50 f1?

  6. I had two F1's neither had a hole in the roof. I would bet on a spot light as well, not factory

There is a spot welded bracket for the single screw that holds the headliner in place. I haven't seen any factory holes on all the trucks I've had but I would guess spotlight also.

My '49 had a spotlight on the driver's A pillar but no hole in the roof. Unfortunately somebody glassed in the spotlight hole, the F-1 emblem holes and a few other things when they made the truck "cool" back in the 60's. :(

  10. There you have it.

Bracket is factory and hole is not.

Thanks Gents. That makes sense. What threw me was the edges of the hole look almost like it was punched by machine rather than a drill bit or some such. I don't have access to another f1 anywhere around here to have compared it to. Now to plug that hole in a weather proof fashion.
