If you have one laying around... can you measure the backing plate width & wheel mounting surface width? I believe they're 2" wider than the passenger car axle. Which should mean that the WMS is 61.25" & backing plate width is 55.00"? 3blap.
Thanks for your sarcasm, but show me which one of those is the axle I inquired about!? The one I inquired about is a parallel leaf open drive shaft banjo... Can anyone else assist me? Thanks... 3blap.
Whether they were trucks or cars they were the same width, just different spring mounts...no sarcasm...just a friendly dig.
If anyone stumbles on this in the future with this question in mind, let it be known that the truck rear axle is 2" wider! I know it's hard to see the actual ruler in the picture, but the two housings sitting next to one another show the difference fairly easily. These two measure 1" difference in length. 3blap.
The axles for the pickup/commercial units are the same as the passenger car. The part number is 21A-4235, overall length 33.70" with 16 teeth in gear. Same axles means same length housings.
The orange axle tube pictured above is a 37-40, the other is a truck tube that ran paralell springs. All 42-48 were the same width, the end forgings were different for car or truck.
i have a open drive truck banjo sitting on my workbench ill measure in a few but i believe they are 2 or 2 1/2 inches wider than an a nevermind looks like i didnt read the whole thead
I have one of from a 47 truck gathering dust! It's 53" between the backing plates and 61" to the wheel mounting surfaces. If you need any more dimensions, just ask. For comparison purposes, the rear below on the cement is a 33-34. It measures 50 1/4" between backing plates and 57 1/4" between wheel mounting surfaces.
Hey Peter & flthd... I appreciate y'alls response! That was the info I was looking for! Flthd... that picture is great! 3blap.
I see what you're saying! That's good to know in case I snap an axle! I thought I'd have to find another truck axle if I did!
