Projects 47 ford coe (car hauler project)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by corvettesander, Dec 25, 2012.

  1. Hi my name is Sander from the netherlands

currently i am working on a 55 chevy pickup from my uncle
and our next project will be the 47 coe.

the 47 coe is an original dutch truck build at the ford factory in Amsterdam
its first 6 years are unknown, in december 1952 it was acquired by the community of Enkhuizen for the local fire department to serve as fire ladder

it was send out to Geesink (fire truck builder) for the conversion to fire ladder
at the end of december and went in service september 1953
    and retired in 1979

when we bought it 2 months ago the ladder was already removed
here a picture of the complete coe and ladder

here the day of delivery to us

because the truck sat for a long time the title expired.
and to re activate the title we had to make the truck functional again
so we made a temporary bed from wood. and went to the local dmv
    to re activate the title

Great survivor! I've really been into trying to find a COE or a flatbed to hotrod. Started a thread but it got deleted. Hopefully that won't happen to you....

  6. Amazing condition, great find.

  7. the cab is pristine the only rust i found is a small spot on the door

will be using a '03 chevy 3500 chassis cab as donor
its still in TX waiting to be shipped over should be here in february

  11. Very nice - I saw this one this past summer and thought it would be cool as a car hauler, maybe for a vintage dragster...

That's such a nice truck. I wish mine was half as nice when I got it. Too bad the ladder was gone, you could have gone to car shows and taken really cool air pictures!!! HA.

Will follow this one. I had a '48 Ford COE and let it slip away during one of those rare times when I thought I had too many projects. Having since recovered from that silly notion I'm in contact with the buyer (who hasn't done anything with it since I sold it) trying to get the title back in my name. Be sure to post any progress as there are many on here that will be ready to soak up any information you provide.

  18. Great project Sander and still using it's original Dutch registration (rare !)

Engine looks like a 338 Lincoln flathead ?!

    Groeten Hennie

  19. i have no idea what it exactly is ? it has a rebuild tag from the ford factory amsterdam

  20. One thing is for sure it's not a stock 239/255 Ford/Mercury flathead.

I really like it Sander, hope to see it on the Dutch roads soon.

Are you using this engine in the Chevy chassis ?

    Hennie

  21. thanks

we will not re-use the flathead (i know its sad)
will use the chassis and drivetrain of the 03' chevy truck
and put the engine behind the cab .

  22. Keep the updates and pics coming! Great project:)

Sander, Wow, you have a great start with that truck. You know
that it was taken care of belonging to the Fire dept. Please keep posting on the progress.
