This has been a long term project. I figured it was about time I started a build thread. Unless I want to rock a My little pony tattoo on my arm I will be driving it to Steel In Motion.

    Specs:
'47 Dodge 3 Window Business Coupe.
    383 Mopar Big Block
    727 transmission
    8 3/4 with a 3.55 sure-grip (posi)
Body was pulled and chassis has been step notched, 4-linked, bagged and front suspension has been rebuilt.

Here are some pics from over the years. I had some rust in the floor.

Working on the chassis. I was mocking up the 4 link here.

step notch tacked in. This shows how low the frame is. I do not want it to lay frame.

A little rust repair panel I made.

Heres a pic with the body mocked up.

More to come as I keep working.

Some consider these cars ugly ducklings but I've like them for a long time. They can be made to look soooo cool if done right. And you seem to be on track for that!! there's a couple of other guys building the same car right now (I think one guys HAMB name is 47aussie so look up his thread on it). good luck.

  3. Awesome to see this Dave. Lots of blood sweat and tears in that puppy. Would be cool to see the pictures of it in the snow from the classified add and when you brought it home.

  5. When you get to the part where you're ready to drive it, post the link to YouTube of the video. I can get it for you if you'd like. Wish I'd been able to keep up with pics of my build.

I started working on the inner fender. this was hacked out by the original owner. I'm using a 16ga trailer fender. I'm just tacking it in now. The lower piece will also be replaced next. It's gonna take a few pieces.

I've redone cavalier R&P I put in a while back. I wasn't very happy with the first attempt. The big block and original steering box did not fit well together. K5hart is helping me machine bushing to adapt the 5/8 heim joints to the 7/16 bolt. We are also spacing them out an inch for clearance when I air out the front. Once I get the tie rod length finalized I will order new set. I will also be de-rusting and repainting the under carriage again. It sat outside for 2 years while I built my garage. this salt air down here in charleston SUCKS.

Good to see a build thread on the big Dodge there Dave.
You've had a struggle with that car, never any fun to have to stop in the middle of a build, move to another state find a house, build a shop, and get started again.
Now if you'll leave them Fucking oil leaking Harleys alone and concentrate on the big D maybe you can get it to SIM, LOL!

  17. I kinda dug the dual front axle look you had going when you bought it. Coulda had a wacky '60s show car vibe...

That was an epic trip. We still gotta write a book about that trip. Thanks for the pics. I had forgotten how hacked up that car was.

  20. That was a big old hole in the firewall! It's going to be a bitchin' car once it's done. Get those rear quarters back together and let's start knocking the rest out so it makes it to SIM.

I wish I could dig those up. I forgot how much of a turd this car was until I saw Big A's pics.

    Got anymore Big A?

  23. That's all I've got. I was too busy laughing at all the bizarre shit that happened on that trip to take more pitchers.

Some of the shots you posted here aren't coming up btw.

I never really liked these orphan body styles until a few started popping up on the HAMB. Sort of quirky (Fugly). I don't mind them now as they just seem to grow on you as time goes by :D
