I just bought a 46 Ford club coupe this past monday. When I got it the rear spring was broken... I mean every leaf. On both sides of the ubolts... Anyway. I had a reverse eye pring from a 47 coupe and every other leaf removed. I put this spring in with a good rear end yet it still sits higher than my dads stock 48 sedan!!! What is the best way to lower these cars?! I dont want it crazy low just lowered... Here are some pics.the tires im going to run will be about 1.5" shorter but thats not enough!!!! No Chevy parts on my FORD
In the old day people would heat & bend the spring about 3" from the shackles. They make 6" long shackles or you could make them your a cutter & welder. You could offset up the rear crossmember if your a cutter & welder.
Cutting and welding doesnt bother me at all... But i wanted to leave the frame stock so if i ever wanted to i could put it back... And long shackles just makes me think of some POS 73 mustand all jacked up... Idk... No Chevy parts on my FORD
Either switch to parallel springs with lowering blocks, or use longer shackles, 6" might be too long, and you can get sway with them, but if you can find maybe 4" that would work, don't know of any other way to lower it without "c'ing" or "z'ing" the rear part of the frame...
I'm running 4" shackles, reversed eyes and leaves removed on my 46 business coupe. To me it sits about right. Matt
