  1. You got that chop just right, love it.

  2. I like it when the rain gutters are kept, that little detail makes all the difference in the final look, just my opinion, no disrespect to the car with the gutters shaved. :)

    Thank you! I appreciate it!
It just depends on the car and what the customer wants. In my case we agreed to shave the drip rail for an early '50's look. We were going for something similar to the Marcia Campbell car.

A So Cal convertible at rest in the cool shade.

    Hello,

One day we see a bright yellow 1947 Ford Convertible driving down the street near the ocean. The next day or so, we see it parked in the back row of a local shopping center. Obviously, it is a cool, daily driver in So Cal. We haven't seen too many of these big convertibles cruising around this neck of the woods.

Upon seeing a bright yellow flash in the far reaches of the shopping center as we pulled into the big lot, it drew my eye to the back of the lot. But, my wife said quickly, “There is an old convertible parked in the back row.” A hot rod thinking wife with a good eye…

So, postponing shopping for a few photos of this nicely built Ford convertible was well worth it.

    Jnaki

The convertible is still a “work in progress” as it had some minor construction going on in the rear seat area. There was a neat installation arrangement of motors, amps, wiring, safety belts, and hidden speakers, etc.

The parking lot through the windshield… It was 90+degrees on this day. So, top down cruising??? It is a local So Cal car that can be seen at some of the Cars and Coffee events and cruises.

The head rest, one piece w. s. and rear view mirrors would make me ignore it, no matter how loud the yellow paint screams out.. JMO.

One side of the chop is done. On to the other side tomorrow. 4" out of the A pillar, just cut the rest until it looks good!

  12. Personal tastes are always different. So far I have not seen one of these body style coupes that has a chopped top with proportions better than the stock top. Some cars just don't look right with the top lower. Some will disagree, but thats my opinion.

Just a side note, the way i chop these, theres no way to keep a stock driprail. A molded driprail could be added if desired.

To get the quarter window shape desired I need to "cut the fat" which is mostly in the drip rail area... so all that ugly goes bye bye...

    Correct.

Pick up my first one of this era a few months ago. Never thought I would like the backseat, but the family digs it.

Have you considered cutting out the drip rail portion and welding it back in later? That's how it was kept in mine.

  30. Tim those chrome wheels and the stripes really make the car. It has lost the old beat up family car look.

OK not to clutter up the thread but I am a little slow on the draw here. Why are we arguing about drip rails on a custom? Personally my only argument would be structure, but it would not be valid. The '46 coupe that I bought in the mid '70s has no drip rails and it is still on the road. No chop either, apparently removing the drip rails chopped or not was a thing in Nor Cal in '60.
