I am building a 1937 Ford coupe tribute hotrod for my 3 brothers and I. We raced on the local 1/2 mile dirt tracks in the '60's and 70's. We raced a '57 ford with a 430 Lincoln motor, among others. Two of my brothers are gone now, so this is something I want to do. So I bought the car , and found a 430 from a hamb member in iowa. Got a 6x2 log intake manifold, t5 transmission, switched the rear to open drive. Getting the cam reground too. Thanks to you guys on the Hamb, I learned enough to be dangerous. LoL
If you look at theHAMB threads about vintage oval racers there is a#30 modified coupe driven by Mel Payne of Hialeah Fla.also appears to have a 430 Linc engine. Appears to have either 8 carbs or fuel injection. Note the up front magneto (stock location), a really heavy engine. In it's day it had plenty of poop Greg
Might as well start looking for a few more T5's now. 430's could be rated as high as 500 ft-lbs in stock form, and earned the nickname "Bulldozer" for a reason. More than enough torque to twist a T5 apart, even the WC versions.
I would like to know how this install goes. Had a line on a 462 and trans, but couldn't find much info on an install so I let it go. Ended up using a 426 Dodge. Mainly because it was what I had. It fit pretty good. But I really would liked to have had a Lincoln in it. I do still have a line on a 410 Mercury and trans, so you never know. Gene.
hmmm, I noticed this on Seattles craigslist the other night. 383 430 462 MEL Edelbrock Tri-Power Intake Manifold Street Rat Hot... (craigslist.org)
I dig how suddenly there are a couple threads about the MEL engines. Now, Mercury had a helluva set up that went under the radar in 1957 using this mill. https://journal.classiccars.com/2019/01/15/high-performance-mercury-super-marauder/
