Eric you may not have seen it but over here there is a aluminium round section with a slot in it for capping sharp edges.

 

That's something I could use. Do you have any pics or info? (and no, I'm not going to trade 4 hubcaps for 2 aluminium rods.)

 

Shit you sussed it !!! I will find out for you, we used to use it on truck bodies to cap sharp edges, its about 1/4" diameter and the 3/16" deep slot is just enough for 18 gauge sheet to slide into, its also annealed so bends real easy.

I check out this build thread every once in a while and am amazed at the amount of patience and craftmanship you posess. Nice work on the the inner fender. Keep up the good work.

 

Those new hubcaps are killer Eric, I will take the caddy caps since you aren't using them!

Keep it up man, are you doing the same thing to the passenger side inner fender as far as cutting and adding that box?

Thanks Scott. As far as the other side, the "box" will be smaller and further back as the lefthand head of the engine is closer to the firewall. The cuts will be the same though.

 

Now that's really cool!! I've never seen that here in the US....I'll have to keep my eyes open for that, could come in handy on my own build. It's amazing the things you learn on the HAMB.

Painted the other side of the inner fender and mounted it in place.

Also started with the passenger side and did a test fit after I'd done most of the modifications this afternoon. An extra "box" will also need to be created for the head on this side. I'll continue tomorrow with more test fittings and modifications

Looking great, I also agree with the new hubcaps, personally, i think the 57 cad's are overrated...you made a good choice

Had a few spare hours today. Welded the corners of the lips, drilled the mounting holes on top and on the radiator support and did another test fit once again. Next on the list: Creating room for the cylinder head and do the area near the firewall. The saga continues...

 

Nice job on the inner fender, it should keep that hemi nice and clean. Great vid, never heard of these guys but i like it.

Lookin great Eric. The inners are really coming along. Check out the 48 I have updated a few more pics. Ditching the stock rear window for a 40 ford split. Should carry a cooler view from behind.

Thanks Matt. I'll go and check out your updates. I did it mock up of the rear split window (cardboard) but decided against it. My view to the rear is already limited due to the chop. Below is a pic from 18 months ago.

The nice thing is with laying down the rear window in my 48, I didn't lose much size. Even with the 40 Ford split rear window I still retain a pretty decent size with it laid down. Besides thats what mirrors are for buddy lol.
