Here is my daily driver. It's a 41 Ford pickup. Got it as an unfinished project about 8 years ago. Top was chopped 2 inches. Had a Plymouth Volare front suspension kit... which sucks, Lincoln Versaille 9" rear, 350/700r4. I swapped the front end for a Heidts kit, put a Vintage Air kit in it and just drove it for a few years. Then decided to freshen it up and rifine if a bit. Just finished doing that in January. Putting a bunch of miles on it since then. Just bought my uncles 47 Ford pickup today. Will post pics when I get some.
A lot of people consider the 46/47 Ford trucks to be as ugly as a mud fence but I have always liked them, they are homely but cool at the same time. HRP
The'41 is sweet as sugar pie. I have been looking for a solid '46 that I could afford for a while, I want to build a truck for my big sister. I personally like the jail bar Ford trucks, I owned one for a few weeks once and loved it. Looking forward to seeing the '47. I like projects.
Brian: That thing is killer! The fenders look like shiny paint but the cab appears satin. What paint is on each? Tim
Great looking truck. It looks exactly like mine did when I bought it. Unlike yours, mine was an accident waiting to happen. I had to put it on the back burner until I finish up the interior of my 1965 Corvette. I like the name Fred. I told my wife a few years ago I wanted a 1940 Ford truck and to ride around with an English bulldog named Fred. I got the truck but my wife said a big no to my dog named Fred.
Haha! Fred is a good dog name! My wife named Fred, take our dog to the beach on his walks in it. His name is Yoda. I named him
Thanks Tim, Yes it is two tone gloss and flat black. Hot Rod Black from SEM on the cab, hood, and bed. Restoration shop gloss black from TCP global on the fenders, grill, beltline, and ford script. With a combination of them in the interior. I tried to find a fat fendered car or truck painted the gloss flat two tone for a long time. Never could find one to see how I liked it. So I gave it a shot... so to speak I like it, Too many people called it a rat rod before. That got under my skin a bit since I never considered it a rat rod. More rockabilly than anything. So I figured, if it has a little bit of shine to it. Nobody should mistake it for a rat rod.
Here's a '47 I restored for a friend a few years back. It's totally stock, except for the 15" wheels and tires which were on the truck when they got it. The owners decided to run the 15's until the tires are worn out, then change them to 16's.
Beautiful restoration! Red and white is so classy. Mine it green and white with a fairly fresh paint job. Zero rust and all original. My uncle was restoring it back to stock. I will change it to more of a traditional street rod. Keeping the flathead v8 though.
This is what I have in mind for the 47. It is a medium metalic green but the grill and waterfall in the hood is off white. Want to swap the white with chrome. White tuck and roll interior. White tuck and roll tonneau cover. Dropped axle with disc brakes. Chrome steelies, wide whites and spider caps. S-10 5 speed and call her good. Then sell it to help finance finishing the 54 Chevy I am building.
Yes, that one does look nice with the chromed trim. The 42's had that, but the trim on all the post-war ones was painted off-white, kind of a cream color.
Saw an aftermarket chrome grille but it was 500.00 and made in China. Will take what I have to the local chrome shop and see what they would charge me. I have a lot of other stull I need chromed as well. May be able to get a deal on all of it done at the same time.
Here is the 47 as it sits. Will pick ut up in a couple weeks. Then post the progress Sent from my SM-N900V using H.A.M.B. mobile app
