Well its been a very long time but I am finally back working on the insane 409 powered Corvair. I am mounting the radiator and building the coolant pipes from the rear to the front. The cooling system is the most time consuming part I think, hard to stay motivated. Wish me luck

I think Corvairs get in your head and don't go away. Theyre really neat cars. What you've done here is outrageous, and I mean that in a good way. From what I can see in the pics, that install looks factory. I had a 63 coupe daily driver for about 4 years, sold it about 2 years ago, really fun car. It was a stock, low mile, 102 horse 4 speed car. White with red interior. I really wanted to build its polar opposite, a black early coupe, lipstick red interior, and a 427 in the back seat and take them both to cruises. The stocker is gone, but the dream of the nasty one remains. Devin
Might need cutting brakes on the rear to go around corners when there is no weight on the front tires.

This is a reverse rotation engine, all are plans for Thompson went sour this past year hopefully we will be there next year.
Those were front engine with a "rope drive" flexible curved shaft to .... a modified Corvair transaxle.
Back in the late 70s I had a buddy that built one with a 400 SB mounted mid engine. He ended up rolling the car a week after he got it running. When the smoke cleared the car was in his parents front yard upside down. It stayed there for a few days before he got a group of guys to help him right it. He told me after the wreck that it was the most fun car he had ever driven. BTW He was a little nuts too.
I finally got the intake installed and the valve train, now to set the valves and a thousand other things to do LOL
Yes its the same type of alt used on some forklifts, 37 amps should be OK my biggest draw is the cooling fan that should only be needed when in town .
Really cool project. Reminds me of the time I was given a 1966 VW Transporter with a blown motor. Was into Corvairs at the time so decided to put a 140 HP (4 carb) motor in it. Flipped the transaxle ring gear, mounted the rear tires off the dune buggy the motor came from, (after a little sabre saw work), and I was off and running. Lots of fun till I tore up one of the gear reduction boxes on the axle. Very expensive bearings. People thought I was crazy too.
