55 DUDE ..I have a 350-350 combo in it now. Pulling it out and slipping the 409 in. What about the firewall? Brian..
I have a 348 and I've been told the W motors are same as small blocks dimension wise. Same oil pans and bell housing mounts. Intake is different of course, but it should be a basic bolt in swap.
Must be easy to install 409 to 35 ford because Fords motorroom is bigger and bigger later models. I have 409cid in my 32 Ford and only biggerthing was to change little firewall. Rgds, Aulis
I would worry more about how wide it is at the front of the heads, your '35 hood and side panels tapper in, maybe the same as a deuce maybe not...............
The 348/409 is actually a little wider than the big block Chevy but other than that it's pretty similar in size. It's longer than a smallblock and if you don't move the mounts all the extra length will be at the front of the engine. I think it's about 1 1/2" longer. Here's a picture of one, I think it's in a 32.
Compared to a small block Chevy, the 409 is 1.5 inches longer, 2.5 inches wider and about 7/8 of an inch lower. The 1.5 inch extra length, by the way is ahead of the the motor mount pads. Weight is about 100 lbs more at 650 lbs. Mart3406
Brian, I just came across the actual physical dimensions for a 409 that you were looking for. . Length - 27..5 inches Width - 30.5 inches Height - 25.125 inches Hope this helps, Mart3406 ======================
