I am looking at building a 401 for a customer that has litterly a pile of 401 parts.I have done some reseach and found there are 3 different blocks for these, but will the internals interchange.I have done a search on the HAMB with little success. Thanks in advance this is the most knowledgable group I have found.
Check out this website. There is some really good info! http://nailheadbuick.com/nailing-down Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
I read that artical on another site it is very insightful thanks. They didn't say much about the crank and rod interchanges. Thanks for the link.
http://www.teambuick.com/forums/view.php?pg=ident_nailhead_interchange The first pic is what does not interchange from a 364-401/425 The second is what does. Hope this helps!
I would just recommend drilling & tapping all 10 oil galley plugs. Be careful with the depth behind the cam gear, you can close off the oil supply without realizing it! Thanks, Gary in N.Y. P.S. You might want to have a discussion with Tom Telesco in Connecticut, he has much experience with these "Nails"!! You can find him at the www.V-8Buick.com site under the name "telriv".
Carmen Faso from J&C Buick parts in Tonawanda NY is an absolute genius when it comes to anything Nailhead. He also sells parts for any combo and was extremely helpful and didn't mind taking the time to educate me when I built my 401. His number is. 716 693-4090
Thanks again folks we will see what the customer decides to do and go from there. This is why I love the HAMB.
Russell Martin, owner of Centerville Auto Repair in Grass Valley, CA has much much parts & info for the Mighty Nailhead!!
I have been on his site all morning. It is very informative. If we do this job we will be talking with him alot.
