I know that but is this a vin tag or body model from another company? I don't have a title and this vehicle was a WW2 ambulance... Yellow truck and coach manufacturing... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
There were no such thing as VINs in 1940. States either used the body serial number or the engine serial number for title purposes. That is the body serial number, and could be used to get a new title. Rich
There is no VIN....only model and serial number. That's all you get before the late 60s. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
look on the frame rail right front, should be numbers stamped, the AC 102 is the series, my '40 GMC suburban was AC101
on my truck ['39 gmc] there was no numbers on the frame, i used the serial number on that tag under the dash.
I have a 1939 GMC AC 152 flat bed. That tag on the inside firewall is what you're looking for. I do California smog check everyday. That's a highly regulated test. VIN since about 1980 is 17 digits but as far as CA is concerned, that tag you found IS the VIN tag. Model number and or serial number IS the VIN in CA on pre-1980 vehicles. Otherwise we would have to send EVERYTHING we check before 1980 to have an alternate VIN plate installed. We don't do that except in very special cases. Mis Dos Centavos
Serial number is the VIN. It's old enough it could have been titled on the engine number instead though.
That is the tag by which the vehicle would have been registered for civilian use after military service. The chassis was GMC and the body by Yellow. As an example from these times, motorhomes are titled by the tag information on the coach body not the chassis make.
