You paid $1600 for something you dont need?

  4. He might. And with Backorder Bob you have to jump on things when you can. Within 6 months they'll be gone (but not from the catalogue) and it'll be another 10 years before they're available.

I should have put a smiley face. I've been thinking about all the $1600 items
I have bought and never used

Must have went fast as their website currently shows out of stock?

Or is Drake giving first right of refusal to people on a wait list before they offer them as in stock?

I bought a spare a year ago for half that, thanks Lou. I was thinking the same thing I bet i.rant was, the one thing to get damaged that is hard to find most of the time.

It’s $1249, I’ve been looking for 3 years. I was put in touch with a person through a HAMB member that knew he had 2 or 3 spare stock appearing grilles.

As it turned out he would not even respond to my e mail much less sell me one.
I look at it as an insurance policy, like Okie stated,if the need arises where you going to get one?

  12. Looks like I'll be building a deluxe next time.

  13. If the dealer market (probably his largest) would buy let's say 250 grilles, and that depleted the current manufacturing run, why would he not have 500 made? Presumably his sales projection would be made on previous year's sales, plus standing backorders, plus anticipated orders for a given time, and that would determine production. Once the manufacturer is set up for the run, why do just the bare minimum?

^^^ Because then they would only be $500:D

  15. A couple of weeks ago I ordered one from Midwest thru their website $750.00, they called me the next day and said they were out of stock, and they had 100 on order and were expecting them in approx. 3 weeks.
Since Bob Drake now has them available I suspected so did Midwest, so I again got onto their website, lo and behold sure enough but now listed at $1249.00.
I paid $600.00 for my chrome one on my avatar, so it's a hard pill to swallow, when now they are more then double the price, for a non-chrome one.
I've had a lead on a used one, but so far no luck..the search continues, or I step up to the plate and spend the cash at the current prices from the aftermarket.

I think I will get some stainless tubing and make my own. $1249 is painted, $1600 is chrome. SS is better

  17. $1600 is what I paid for my last '40 standard with 327 4 speed. My how times have changed.
