I looked at a 40 Ford pickup today and it had a metal floor in the bed. I don't pretend to be an expert on this vintage truck so I was wondering if anyone knew what year Fords had metal floors and when they started with the wood plank??? This floor IS stamped to look like it has planks and divider strips but it is all sheetmetal.

    They were called grain beds.
You could haul grain and not lose one

I have a 40 pickup that I am working on. If you look around the sides of the bed you will see rivets. This holds the metal bed you are talking about in place over a wooden bed. I think this was done for quite a few years. Metal over wood for strenght.

Old timer once told me metal bed for grain wood bed for livestock (they could get footing and not fall and get injured in transport)

Thats why Chevy's were popular with farmers, you could get them with either metal or wood.

  7. Beds are the same '38-'41, so yours has the same bed as my '38. They all had the sheet metal skin over a wood subfloor. The metal floor in mine was too far gone to save, so I went with wood.
