40 Dodge 1.5 ton

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Steveo, Jan 30, 2012.

  1. All we need to know is where is the transmission filler plug on a 40 Dodge one and a half ton duelly flatdeck. I can't see pulling the floor and trans top just to service the lube. Fords all had a square plug on the side and the filler pipe just pumped in lube until it came out the hole. I am down undr for the next month but I will check back here from time to time.

Thanks for any help. She's grinding awful bad.

It's there. scrape the old grease and mud and look for a recessed plug. If that fails turn it up on it's side and fill through the PTO plate. LOL

That's right. (not the 'roll it over' part, LOL)

Scrape the grease off both sides, and look for a flat (or 'recessed') pipe plug; it will have a square hole, for a special wrench. (if it's 3/8", obviously a 3/8" socket extension will do)

If it's 5/16", and there's no old-time station with lube tools, (tool looks like a double-headed dogbone with different size square male nubs on each end) you may have to get a Flea-Market 3/8" drive extension and grind it down 'til it fits.

If she's 'grinding awful bad', you might check the clutch release.
