Oh, pretty much the same as in Estonia, but the difference is that Estonians have tried a bigger variety of things you can do to a car than Latvians. In short, most of the things that are not 'bolt on' need to be documented as 'special projects', in order to pass the yearly technical inspection, and to make the government start caring about your project, you need to throw some anonymous envelopes filled with cash here and there...thats only the beginning. Oh, but yeah, thats how it works in Latvia, Estonians have surpassed that post-soviet illness state
And thanks for the birthday greetings, haha!

    Great job.
So far the build very closely resembles my 40 chevy back when I first started, and for what it's worth, yours was in much better shape than mine was.
I like the sketch of your vision for it.

Started working with rear fenders now. First I removed 2 cm of filler or putty or what I can call it. It was very shocking picture what was under it - again.
A peace of sheet metal and forge new piece to replace the crap that were made by somebody in the past.

    picture. Before and After

Hi ..all vacation days i have spend in garage :) and still working on fenders and running boards.

    There's some pics again..

Rear fender coating with 'rust-converter' or however it's name in U.S

And after this.. epoxy-primer and then layer of rubberguard.

There I have welded the rear fenders onto the body.
Welds are coated with tin and again the rust-conv.

and there you can see that I have welded the original tanking hole as well.

Thanks for your support guys. Meanwhile, I got sick..and couldn't work on the car. But after a couple of weeks I did few things again.

    compressor mounts and frame attachment
    air tank sockets and wickers
    solenoid block bracket
battery base and a top bracket
rear seat plates and lower division of it
    transmission cooler location and fittings
    high beam foot-switch
    fuse box location and holder
    cooling radiator attachments

Today I thought what to do with a front licence/number plate. Where to put it? It doesn't fit anywhere. Maybe if it would be hide-able ? powered with pneumatics or electric motor? I have to figure out a little more about - how to do it.

I have made a 2D plan of the device... what do you think about it?

Hi.. last weekend I framed off the body for 3. time. To finish welding job under the trunk floor and clean all the surface under the floor - preparing to paintjob and then corrosion protect layer. Epoxy primer is now in place. Next I fill welded floor edges/angles with body-sealing-mixture.. then a coat of gravelrguard.. then paint and maybe bitumen based undercoat for extra.

Also I have welded the firewall holes and found a place for air solenoids.

I think this is the first winter in a long time when I do not expect the snow starts melting. because I have so much to do. :p

    aand pics

    weekend update

    *floor is painted
*firewall holed are filled and smoothed
*continued to work with front fenders. Replace the rust holes with sheet metal and coat the welds with tin.
*disassembled the dashboard and made the new space for modern radio behind the glove box.

Original location of radio will replaced with 3 air pressure gauges. and choke and temperature knobs will be used to operate air compressor and solenoids. Then I don't have to add some extra switches to dashboard. I don't like when it's full of stuff.

Great work and attention to detail! I prefer the 40 body style over the 41 and later.
Make sure you're not violating any local laws with the hide away license plate. There are stiff fines here for plates which are not permanently mounted, moslty because of street bikes which had hinged plates that would flip up at speed and could not be read by the police.

Because the transmission is painted long time ago..the paint was hatched all the way. I removed all old paint and gave it a new coat of paint. Better than before :)

Also painted the inside of the body a little bit.

Before I lift the body completely to the frame - I want to measure the engine oil pressure and compression to make sure that the motor is suitable to start. I still don't know that are the engine and transmission capable of driving :/ . Prev. owner told that trans is overhauled. I hope that is true. But we'll see.

well the top chop is almost done..the door/window frames are left.
So far it has taken 2 weekends.

I didn't cut the rear window out all the way. I left it stick at the top, and bend it to an right angle. I used also the original c-pillar pieces. Cut some notches and did a lot of hammering..welds and hammering and so and so.. because I didn't have english wheel in here. AND the result was, however, able to reach. Today I completed the inner pieces of quarter windows and rear window ledge. Removed the support beams. and feeling is great. In this country I can freely say: Pay respect, or do. Because the top chop is a rare venture in here.

At last - After two years, I feel like I'm gonna get to where I am striving.

    Some imagery...
