I might be able to get my hnads on a 392 Hemi (short case) block with heads, covers, rockers ,pistons, con rods...some other stuff! Stock Bore! No Crank!. 1. Whats a reasonable price...? (I know...The more answers the better...go off on it!) 2. Where to look / common places for Cracks (Magna flux) 3. Who makes Cranks for it? 4. Trans Adapters? Like I need another project but.... What da Hey! it's a Hemi!! Mahalo Tommy
I can tell you this about transmission adapters; they're hard to find and pricey when you find them. I've been looking for a early hemi to '49-'64 Ford for the last few months and the ones that have come up are either for later Mopar engines, or the owners think they are made of gold.
First, be sure it's a 392. The only extended bell Chryslers were '51-54 331s so you can rule those out. Every other Dodge, Desoto, and Chrysler fits your description. ID the casting numbers on the block to make sure you know what it is. No crank hurts it some. Values are regional; the same engine in LA will bring more than, say, in Missouri. If it's really a 392 and there are no obvious cracks. $1000 would be a good deal and $1500 is about right. Add another 500 or more if you locate a good crank.
The obvious/most common locations for cracks, is around the core plugs. A clean block with main caps is worth, at least to me, $1k, same for a clean usable crank that will finish to .030 or less. BTW, crank and block ID is on my website if you need help. There are a numerous trans adapters available all depending on the trans you desire. No, adapters are not inexpensive. Yes, in some circumstances, you can make your own... There are several high-end billet cranks available, prices will be in the $3000 to $5000 range. .
The 392's I've seen in new England area go for 1900-2400 depending on how complete it is. A crankshaft for the 392 NOT 354or331 around 1000. Shipping is expensive. GL

GOT ME A HEMI! 392's not for sale yet... ...But i made a deal on a Industrial 331 short trans for less than a 392 crank. Original LOW compression pistons...this thing probably never spunn that fast. Didn't take a picture of the crank but it looks good!
My boat racer friend in San Jose left a note in his desk drawer, went to the doctor for a heart checkup and died in the waiting room. His landlord found the note, and called me. It was a handwritten last will. Dick left me a low mileage '56 Chrysler 354, complete. (had stick flywheel, bell housing, and a Weiand 2 X 4 intake) I had told him to go get checked out, so he did... (irony, sure miss him)
