I need to replace the rear main seal. Any advice on rope or neoprene? Also any tricks or tips? The motor is a complete running motor. I can pull the motor but do not want to pull the crank. I checked out the Hemi Tech page, but it was just general "gasket" info.
Beware, the National or Timken seal # 5414 listed in RockAuto cataloge will NOT fit a 392. As far as I know, there is only one company selling the real main seal for the '92, and it is Hot Heads. Rope or neoprene. It can be changed without removing the crank, if necessary. There are special tools designed to make it easier, like the Napa 492. http://www.hothemiheads.com/engine_block/gaskets.html https://www.ebay.com/itm/KD-NAPA-Cal-Van-Tools-KD-492-Oil-Seal-Remover-Installer-/230874687084 https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/SER492
Send a PM to 77RR. he has been talking about a new seal he developed. I don't think it's available yet but he still probably has some good info.
