392 Hemi / 4 Bolt Mains Vs. Stud Girdle

    And here is why. :eek: I took this section from a 354 A1 block. The main webbing (in red) is less that .160 thick. That, and the fact that if not careful, the splayed bolts can actually hit the water jacket above the pan rail.

    new doc 116_1.jpg This main girdle was supposedly offered by Hotheads Research at one time. Not only are four main bolts used, but the full width caps are tied to the side rails and bottom of the block.

    This looks to be a fairly old thread, but since I just saw it I'll comment like its brand new. ha ha. Ive run the splayed 4 bolt main caps (no girdles) in 354s and 392s for 30 years. Blown alcohol, blown gas, injected nitro (25%) and never broke a block or a cap. Blocks were always filled.
