So, what's a good brand of water pump for a 390 fe (stock)? Any experience out there using a rebuilt one or is better that I rebuild it myself?

I've bought plenty of them at Napa auto parts and they are usually remanufactured. They last several years. Some of my part number correct resto friends like to rummage through them and look for the ones with rare or hard to find FoMoCo part numbers on them.

they're sold as new under the GMB brand and rebuilt by A-1 Cardone. as far as rebuilding it yourself, i haven't seen a rebuild kit on the shelf in years, and truthfully, they're cheap enough to buy outright instead of doing it yourself except as a learning experience. i'll tell you my favorite thing about FE water pumps... most of the time, eight bolts, four in the fan pulley and four holding it to the block are all you need to take out to renew one.
