39 trans shifts too easy

i have a friend who has a 39 transmission
the stick moves in all positions, but seems too loose and easy, also jumps out of gear on occasion.

any suggestions?

Sounds like it's worn out, time for a rebuild. Sloppy shift lever indicates that the top end is loose, pops out of gear is also affected by shifting mechanism, syncro, thrust washers and bearings. Not a difficult trans to repair and should be done before you explode it.

 

also, what is he comparing it too?? 39's aren't the tightest to begin with.
