Did a search and found nothing on here. It's up for auction ($475000), anyone seen this, it looks kinda interesting. http://autoholics.com/2011/06/08/World-s-First-Transparent-Car-Will-Go-To-Auction-540128 Scotty.
Really puts new meaning to the term "What you see is what you get." Kinda hard to hide shitty workmanship under that skin. But I wouldn't want to drive it on a sunny day... 1939 Pontiac slow cooker.
I got a PM saying that there were 3 different cars made like this, but I can't find the other 2 yet. Scotty.
The front license plate on it clearly reads "1940 PONTIAC." Whoever wrote the article just can't read.
I knew thay made 3 of the 40 sedans but never heard about a 39...opened the link and the car is the same'ol 40 they made 3 of... I have a buddy who'd be interested in another 40 sedan...his has a punched-out 428 Poncho/400 turbo and trans-am disc brake 3:42 posi rear...trans-am front subframe too
Very cool... I am really impressed that whatever plastic-like material they used looks as good as it does!
There was a 1939 Plexiglass Pontiac to start, that was displayed at the 1939 World's Fair. A 1940 Pontiac was displayed at the 1940 World's Fair, but the accepted story is the 1939 car was updated with a 1940 front clip. There was a photo released of a third car, but it appeared to be a retouched photo composite of the 1939 and 1940 versions. So, most likely there was just the one car. Pontiac initially donated the car to the Smithsonian, but then they sold it in 1947. It's passed through a number owners since then, all pretty well documented.
