not so much technical here, just a ramble about messing with cool junk.. 'went to the Monroe swap meet Saturday, after walking around for an hour or two picking up a few trinkets and bumping into friends the phone rings and 'was alerted of a '50 Olds stick transmission with shifter for sale cheap, of course I bought it. same buddy that alerted me had a '37 LaSalle transmission for sale at an earlier swap meet, yes he still had it and yes I wanted it and yes I bought it too. and he had a couple stripped down cases and a '50 Olds stick bell too. the '37 had no stick but he assured me he had it somewhere along with some more internal parts and 'will try to find them. yesterday I tore into them, the '50 had some repair work done to it's case and the gears were showing some wear but the input and output shafts looked great and so did the sincro. the '37 had good gears but the case had some severe wear at the rear idler thrust surface. one of the empty cases did have a decent 2-3 fork but the case itself was also worn in the same spot. the third case was decent with only a couple brass plugs on the top where someone must have gotten creative trying to remove the 1-R fork pin. I made a pile of the good stuff, cleaned and organized what I needed. today I put it together, '37 case and gears with '50 input, output shafts and tail housing. stuck it on one of the spare engines and snapped a picture.. I had a couple sticks, one with a modified upper and one with a bad lower, it will get the better parts of each joined at a later date but it fills the hole for now.
