My buddy Typo called me a couple weeks ago to tell me about a tip on a car he knew I’d be interested in....
A 37 Chevy Master Coupe with a 38 hood and grille with a straight axle, Muncie 4 speed, 327 sbc and a 57 Pontiac rearend that was last run at Riverside in 1971!
So off to Southern California me and the wife go, even brought the cat! Went to see the guy with the car on Saturday, the car was perfect! So-Cal cars really are rust free! Made the deal, loaded the parts and headed back home today!

I’m exhausted from the drive, will unload everything and then more show-n-tell! I really want to keep it race ready. The engine was built in early seventies and then bagged up on a engine stand. The car was in the garage I think 35 years or more, dust made a brown cloud for the first couple miles. The guy behind me in his new Tesla was NOT happy!

  6. Very cool! Can’t wait to see more pics! Can’t believe you would do that to a new Tesla... :D

Here it is as I found it.....

I 'found' the car from a casual comment from a friend at a Saturday morning donut run My brother-in-law has 37 Chevy for sale, he used to drag race it,,,

    They are still out there!!

  13. Neat car. I am obviously biased to 37/38 Chevys, so this one is exciting to see more of.

Seems like most of the Chevy coupes in the Northeast were turned into modifieds (roundy round cars for you drag racers)! Great score, did you get any of the other parts?

We lost our sweet Jodie Dog last week and she and the cat were best friends. Mitten Von Kitten is a polydactyl cat, he’s got 6 toes in the front and 5 in the rear, thus the name “Mitten”! Here they both are in happier times.... AE9EE594-48A3-4C21-8A2F-BD13731F0317.jpeg

Sorry, I forgot the question! Mitten would rather go one a road trip than stay at Kitty Prison!

  20. ...so, that coupe just got out of storage and already dusted a Tesla!...cool, can't wait to see more.

As a lover of late 30's Chevy coupes (especially gassers!) I'm infatuated with your find! Looks great so far, and can't wait to see more of it!

Got everything unloaded today and blew off most of the dust. The car is amazing, really only one place with any damage at all! 4B395853-E6E7-472E-85A7-AB7B8CD9035C.jpeg
The car came with 3 pairs of rear fenders, two that are radiused and one pair uncut, and the front fenders are beautiful!

Put the front fenders on and unloaded it from the trailer.... Wow! Sprayed some Kroil on all the door and trunk latches, they all work great and open and close as they should.

    Here’s the bad stuff...
    E66AAE6C-7865-4657-AC9A-7B04BE8CBF6A.jpeg
Rust in seam at rear of trunk pan. Doesn’t look very bad and the bent metal should straighten pretty easily.
    34EE5CC3-3693-4FD3-8578-2FF9C3FCA811.jpeg
This is the worst thing on the whole car, right rear pan where rear bumper bracket comes thru the body.

Typical 60’s race car, firewall met the Gas Axe! But one of the things I got with the car is a new Bitchin Products Firewall and floor pan kit.

Don’t have any idea how these go in, but I’m sure it’s idiot proof.... I hope!

Pretty cool score. In high school, a neighbor had a 38 Chevrolet Coupe for sale, with a MOPAR 413, cross ram, and automatic for sale. He would't sell it to any of us "kids" though; "too much car for you". Money does't always talk; I had the money. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Trunk is in real good shape, just all the drag race gear out back. BA551C76-2846-4822-B858-3DCEF0474F4E.jpeg 906385E4-AC37-423F-B066-D00AF6ABAFEB.jpeg 61A1EDCA-A795-4120-8131-A77F5091F972.jpeg
No name aluminum fuel tank and the deck lid is in good shape.

  26. Yea, that thing is definitely a great find! Thanks for sharing all the pics! Can’t wait to see what you do with it. The 37/38 Chevy coupes definitely make some of the best gassers. I think I need one too...

Wow, great find, love the 37-38 coupes, especially one with real period history.
They are still out there, I just bought one out of Houston area that had been sitting since 1972, luckily indoors.
Has a Olds/Pont rear and neat old traction bars IMG_20200330_214155548.jpg 14303.jpeg
