Projects 36 ford custom build (MISS SCARLET)

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by kippers 34, Jul 5, 2013.

  1. The rear of the fender was modified to try to make it fit a sedan so it dident line up at all.

There was a lot of rust under the taillight stand.

And the bottom was bent, tore, and had bad old repairs.

  2. First a patch panel was made to repair the rust.

With the patch installed and smoothed.

Then a patch was formed to the body to repair the lip.

Then attention turned to the rear lip.

With a panel formed it was trimmed then clamped in place.[IMG]

    Then ground down.

And moved on to the next.

I then made a buck to form the lip on a patch.

A patch was then formed and clamped into place.

    After the panel was tacked.

Then the rear was welded and smoothed.

  3. There was a tear in the lip.

So I cut it out and then cut a patch from the sedan fender.
The patch was welded and smoothed. The drivers fender is now ready for mud.

What are the clamps you're using? I've seen and used Cleco's, but these are different.

  13. 8 for $7.99? It isn't even worth making concidering how much time is worth. I bought 32 of them and it would cost more in time just to buy and find the metal.

  14. First let me say if you mig and but weld your panels these clamps are worth any price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And yes mine are harbor freight. I first saw them in eastwood at like 25.00 for 4. So I thought I would make some but saw them at harbor freight very cheap. And I don't think I could make them any cheaper if I consider my labor but some may not see it that way. If you don't have harbor freight close it may be easyer to make your own.
The older I get the more my time is worth to me!

  15. Ditto . If you dont have a Harbor Freight, just order them online.:D:D:D

    Thanks,

I'm about 50 miles from Joplin where the nearest store is. So I may just order them.

I read the description and it said .4 gap but then to the right under thickness it said .040 so that makes quite a difference. Might get a little warpage at .400 gap!

  17. Thank tons! She's been a fun build so far.

Nice work, and those panel clamps look awesome! Was hesitant on buying the Harbor Freight ones because, well, they're from Harbor Freight, but it looks like you've had good success with them. Thanks for the continued updates!

  23. Awesome build! Quite the talent you got there.
I agree on the fact that its the best build tread in a while! Keep up the great work!

  25. Now for the right fender. The front was rusted and had a very old repair that was leaded. [IMG] First the lead was removed to expose the panel below.
Then I removed what was needed and replaced it with a patch panel.

Then the side of the patch was sectioned.

After all was welded, Ground, Smoothed, And ready to move on.

  26. On to the rear of the fender. The whole bottom was crap!

    Or missing.

    So I formed patches.

  27. Then I cut the bottom off in pieces.

And started to replace the bottom.

After attatching bottom I made a template of the other side and had to split the fender to get the right profile.

Then the front is pieced together.
