I found the bumper and the running boards buried in the barn. ! I put them on last weekend. Fender bolts were run back on the bumper. This guy obviously loved this coupe before he passed away

Man that paint cleaned up real well. I wouldn't touch it one bit!!! Truly happy for you!!!

  16. Maybe it's just me but, I would leave that paint alone for a while and concentrate on getting the car safe and driveable. It looks a lot better now that the wife cleaned it up.

Nice find! I wouldnt touch the paint. Lower it a bit. Throw some white walls and cool wheel covers on it and roll it

I agree with you 36 Penny, the spare tire should disappear. That was my thought before I caught your comment.

Original transmissions had the vin number stamped at top of the trans bellhousing for a number of years.
You might check the top of your trans for a number that you/your Dad could cross check for a year of manufacture and maybe whether Ford or Merc.
    Great find.
    Good luck!

Heh, I think the spare in the back is a nice detail.
    More importantly, it's different.

Don't think Mercury made top shifters for the 8BA- 8CM engines... An American Ford truck was floor shift and open driveshaft from ['41-'42] to '48...
    Canadian Mercury trucks ?
Closed driveshaft stick Fords from '32 to '48 car...
Mercury started in 1939 so there may be some Mercury closed sticks out there...?

That's a great car. Consider leaving as is getting it running, driving and safe, disassemble enough to clean it (interior).

It's a cool old build, enjoy it for a while before making major changes. Please don't paint it flat black.
