Remember Howard Johansen's (Howard's Cams) twin-tank lakester from 1949? The clever contraption featured a hot flathead in one tank while the driver sat in the other. Although the combination was good for 182 mph on the salt, the car never proved to ...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Sounds like someone's coupe needs new plugs too Cool video of the belly tank x2. Wonder how the steering was set up, maybe a right hand steer, can you imagine what that felt like?
HOTDAMN just found a couple tanks at the salvage yard for pennies basically that look sort of like those tanks. I think they were FJ-4b tanks from the mid 50's so I am sure he'll be excited about this JJ entry!
Your salvage yards are alot cooler than the ones in my area if you are able to find tanks like that for pennies. Our's are filled with Ford Escorts and Kias
Here is a twin tank streamliner that Mark Dees ran at Bonneville in 1974. He ran 266 mph in it. I don't remember who orginally built it but it was from the fifties as it had a chevy "X" shift trans fron around 1950 in it. The trans would not hold the power fron the 427 chevy built by Bob Joehnck and the trans had to be welded in high gear to make a full 5 mile pass.
The driver was Piero Taruffi, the one that won Mille Miglia steering his car with the "rod" of his steering wheel. The track is "Autodromo Nazionale di Monza", near Milano, when was built the "Indy type" oval, dubbed as "Anello Alta Velocità", where some american roadtsres ran a 500 Miles diveded in three different runs just in 1955 and 1956.
as BELUSHI SAID ... LETS DO IT! unofficial HAMB twin tanker b-ville project.. parts list TWIN TANKS .. CHECK....
All good, actually the last bit of the vidio was more interesting at this point. At the time, the magazines I remember had some of these photos. Neat stuff.
That's incredible. I think I've seen the Howard Johanson twin-tank in a book. Very interesting stuff.
We had one of those twin-tank jobs over here at the Fremantle Museum, but the idiots that push paper around their desks forced it to shut down. Not sure what the owner (Peter Briggs) has done with it now.
Sweet video! the Italian job is right hand drive too. Is the #666 tank still runnin at Bonneville or has it been mothballed away?
Howard Johansen was my Grandfather and I am looking for either one of his belly tank cars if anybody has any info I would love to have it. Pictures or any sightings of the cars.
