Thanks for posting that dash rail lowering thing...I missed it along the line somehow. I found that to be of interest, because here in Pennsylvania, we have to have at least 7" of windshield space at the narrowest point. For example, I chopped mine 3" & the narrowest point is a tad over 8." That means, a 4" chop would be the max (at least for the 32-34 Ford trucks). So, the dash rail lowering thing would enable people desiring a more radical chop a little more leeway.

Yeah i.agree good tech article there. How easy.was it to.chop the windshield frame?

  4. Not sure who you are directing the frame chop to but mine was easy. I chopped mine by removing the bottom and then cutting it on an angle.

I was more interested in figuring out the contour of the frame since it.will now be longer on the bottom.sides

The bottom of the windshield frame should remain the same width after the chop/dash recess. No? The only mod required is to shorten the vertical legs, and of course the glass. Maybe I'm not seeing it right though?

  8. I'm sure all I did was shorten the verticle legs when I chopped my 33. I cut it 5.5" and it was already channelled over the width of the frame. I'm 5'9" and after mounting my van 3rd seat flat on the floor, I had about 1.5-2" of space between my head and the top. I used a 49 ford dash in mine and don't remember having any problems seeing out except for those damned Kansas City traffic lights! I'd just wait 'till I saw them change color in the reflection on my chrome air cleaner.

The contour doesn't change. But I think with a 7" chop you're going to have to cut it at the bottom corners and tilt the legs out. Like SPDJUNKY said how how he did his.

I used a repro aluminum frame and when I tried to just cut down the height and force it wider at the top the center bottom humped way up. So I cut the bottom corners and tilted them out like I said above. Then the contour came back to the way it was supposed to be.

If you don't mind me asking what did you give for the truck you started with? There are 2 on a tree line about a mile from me in about the same shape. The owner will sell them he told me to make a offer.

I.had.to.cut my.A pillars and tilt them out so I'm guessing that will be the case with the windshield Also.

Looks rad. A lot of members have commented on other threads about the dangers of not seeing brakelights on hot rods and those hot rods being hit, your work will help to minimize that possibility. I like it.

while its good to be safety minded, it still has to be appropriate. that third brake light is less than appropriate.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. For a truck that is this small height wise it is more than appropriate. Any help being seen ill take. I've been hit before its no fun. As far as everything else if you don't like it to bad,my truck, my ideas, my build.

Only an inch. No further than the lip of the back window on the inside.
