The car while on thanksgiving break from work. The Rube Goldgerg steering has always been real hard to steer while the car is not moving. After completely rebuilding the ross steering box and making sure that the pile of heim joints were all working as planned, i realized that my leverage was wrong on the steering plate attached to the spindle. The store bought arm was just over 6 inches long from the end to the kingpin. My new one is 8 1/4 inches. This made all of the difference in the world. My car now steers! Yea!!!! Other than this, I just went around and welded the chassis up enough for a test drive, and built a set of mounts to allow the rear shocks to be in double sheer instead of the single sheer style , like they were.

Now that it is cyber monday, i will order all of the necessary stuff to get it running, starter, carb kits, alternator, ect… the winter goal is to drive it in raw metal. Between this and painting the v8 healey, i should have my hands more than full.

  4. Looks great Jim :D gonna be a beast! Sad part is I'll never get to see it in person. Don't know if you deal with them, but there's a bunch of good stuff in the speedway garage sale right now.

I buy from speedway all of the time, thanks for the heads up. As for seeing it in person, come on by when its done, you can take it for a drive.

  7. I'm lucky on alternators, there's a guy just a couple miles away that rebuilds. I take him 10SI cores whenever I come across them, and he always rebuilds one and makes it one wire for me. Starting to get few and far between on cores around here though.

VERY easy. Take the video then put it on youtube. Then go to your video on youtube and copy the address ( www........whatever) then simply paste that address into a post on the HAMB and post reply. Your youtube will be in that post. :)

Hey @JimSibley fantastic build from junk!! So cool man to make your own ride. Can you explain how or what parts you got to make the upper and rear of the quarter panels?
I get that you used sedan parts but how did you make the tops? Thanks in advance, Ron

The tops of the rear quarters are made from a beat up pair of sedan rear fenders. I made the body lines on a makeshift powerhammer that i made from an old punchpress. They arent perfect, but they worked out pretty well.

My plan has been to get the coupe running before summer, and drive it in raw steel for a while. I am currently having the powerglide rebuilt, waiting on parts, so we will see how progress goes.

    Hey Jim
You probably mentioned it on here but how does the roof seal? With my luck I would get caught in a storm in it.
I always have to plan for the worst.

I have not figured out a seal yet, but I am thinking that I will put a step in the inner structure, and seal it. With a rubber gasket.

I didnt work on the car all summer. I took time to build a power hammer, a 1927 ford roadster, and a 47 chevy truck, v8 swap.
Its fall and I am pulling all of the cars that i will work on over the winter into the main heated area of my shop, so back to the junk. 34. I have began stiffening the roof, and making it fit the car. I have also decided it needs wheel wells. I was going to leave them out, so as to show a little bit of the tube chassis, but i had a set of ecklers wheel wells in my loft, so I am using them up. What do you think, better with them
Or more racey without? A7384966-4BCB-41C4-A84D-1B90AA6DE845.jpeg E2F2942B-8A5D-4FB6-8F03-1EAE25981E6E.jpeg

I like the wheel wells. As a Model A guy the beads are 180% reversed, or have you placed yours that way for more tire clearance?
