Love your vision on the roof. Im sure you will work out any kinks with the mechanism. Have you tried getting in without a stepladder?

The main thing I can think would be a concern with the sliders is that they'd have to be 100% parallel. Not sure if your cockpit is tapered or not.

B46BF529-CF06-45BA-B4EC-0D504B69F43B.jpeg It’s pretty low. I can hop in over the door pretty easy. I’m not above putting a couple of foot wells in the side if it needs them. As for the tapered cockpit, I am fighting that fight right now. The cage is pretty square, I might attach the roof to that instead of the body. One good thing about building outside of the box, there aren’t a lot of rules!

Well, it works. I got the roof to slide. Still needs work, but I know it will work. Took the car outside for some walk around shots, and so I could clean up the work space a little. 0374C196-5B68-43E9-818B-D9DAEB114FB1.jpeg BD72D00D-56F1-4131-968D-E6042B3962A9.jpeg 91E54CA3-6B5C-4086-AC7D-9799C8A58F3D.jpeg 052C7593-B114-45FB-940E-4D65E5B9EBBB.jpeg

Stogy, the lack of front shocks, horns lights and brakes is a look that I really like, of course I will need to add some of these things at a later time, but I am hoping for a clean and sparse look in the end.

  16. Just stumbled on this today, my kind of build, great work. Anytime a harvester piece can be incorporated into a build, that is a positive. Not many IHC parts with the potential to do a couple hundred miles an hour. Love it.

Thanks for the positive comment. International hoods of this era are just about as close to a rocket ship as old hoods get. I honestly built the whole car around that hood.

  18. No doubt about it, under your care the hood and body make a great match. I also liked how the body and frame are joined. Art and engineering in the same project, nice work, thanks for sharing. Hagery drivers club issue 64 has something similar on the cover. I read the publishing restrictions and don’t think I can ad a picture, without permission, but a simple search brings it up. I still like yours better, the wavy Chrysler front axle, the hood, the rear end finish, so very cool. Looking forward to see what you do about lights on all 4 corners, enough for now.

Hamber @Lucky Burton I'm going to go out on a limb and assume is the Owner/Builder of the Hotrod you speak of...and he has a build thread...I can easily see that influence you see in Jim's Hotrod...

I spent the day with some water damaged old calendars from a local club, building a low budget bomber seat. After the paper seat was fit to the car, i recreated it in 18 guage steel. Im pretty happy with the end result, and again, it was all made from stuff i had laying around. 02562D9F-E122-403A-87DA-D5EB80E08105.jpeg 445DD819-7063-45A8-9B5C-5B39A8BFD42F.jpeg 726344B1-177A-4EC0-AA31-877AD26E6DDA.jpeg D4591EB4-78C9-4909-B09C-6BC7688EA8F1.jpeg

Started building the actual floor sections. Man, its a lot harder when you cant just open the door. I have to climb in and out 100 times a day. Took the roof off, which made it a lot easier. I kinda like it with no roof. Next, i need to fill in the gap from chassis to body, im thinking of making a bunch of spars, like a plane to keep it rigid, and then just build bolt in filler pieces from the chassis to the bottom of the car. In the last pic you can see my first attempt at a spar. It really helped make the car stiff, and it keeps with the airplane look. 627C2527-9340-4489-A58F-713349691A5E.jpeg 8FB8B675-EF85-4587-96B1-FC5BB976C3FD.jpeg 32D8325D-5059-4BEA-B291-EEBDB737C5DE.jpeg

My dad was a well known bush pilot in alaska. He pioneered the cessna 150 taildragger conversion and as a kid i assisted in the building of these bush planes for our family business. With that said im thinking a cessna 150 steering yoke should be the wheel of choice in my junk rod. My dads last plane was a 1962 model i believe, so it fits into the hamb age group. Now to call my brother and see if he has one that i can use.

This is a picture I got off of the net, but this is a steering wheel made by Sheller that was used on some kind of implement, possibly a big lawn mower in the 50's. They have a keyway in them to mount similar to a Model A (not sure about the taper though) and they're pretty cheap, I know I've seen several of them on eBay sell for not much, although there doesn't seem to be any on there now. It's another option, gives a similar look and might be a bit easier to turn with.
