Hi all, I have an early 1954 331 hemi with the cast on bell housing.
What happened is the oil pump drive shaft seized in the block just above the rear main cap and broke.
Have removed sump and oil pump, oil pump seems fine, it looks as if drive shaft picked up in bore. It has been very hot as it is now blue, the broken piece is about 1.5" long, and it took a bit of getting out.
Question is, is this common, and is there a bush in the block or is the bore machined directly into the casting. The bronze bush under the distributor drive gear is in good condition with minimal play.
Thanks in advance for any input good or bad.
