Projects 33 Ford 5 window coupe build - 50's style

Hamber "Timwhit" sent me these pics of his cabriolet project - Tim has done just a fantastic job putting this body together. Have a look a a few pics......

 

You can see this cabrio coming together - there is talent and then there is real talent, and Tim has the latter in spades.....

 

The cabrio has good detailing and selection of hotrod parts as well....

 

Steve: Managed to get through the Sherrif's inspection yesterday and get tags. Really fun being able to cruise legally!!!

 

BTW: The roadster is in my garage but belongs to my Nephew......the one who gave me the cabri

 

Tim - you guys have quite the 34 Ford collection. Getting the cabrio on the road after all that work must be a real thrill, you did a fantastic job putting that one together. Now, a 34 roadster, that is one I have always wanted but never found. Maybe some day....enjoy cruising in the cabriolet!

Yah, I'm getting closer to getting back on this build. That 53 Ford convertible project is just taking too long, and I am burned out on it. Got to put it aside and forget about it for awhile. Will keep you all posted.....

 

Yes, finally back on this project starting tomorrow!

 

You have more coupes then some people have teeth. That's a good problem to have. Coupes then teeth.....find a bigger shop yet? Think that is all on our wish lists........of course, I have all my teeth, and no coupes. Priorities all dicked up....but fixable. YeeHA !! Digging the thread, glad to see it moving along again. Thanks for sharing.

Finally back on this project - got to stop buying other cars and then I could get this thing done! Used an early aluminum flywheel on the back of the 331 Cadillac motor, with an equally early pilot bushing. Then with another early part, an adapter, hooked the 39 Ford trans up. Using an 11 inch Ford truck pressure plate and disc.

 

Put the motor and trans in the chassis and hooked it up to the shortened 40 ford torque tube.

 

Just to update because it has been awhile and this thread started years ago - if you go back to the beginning of the thread, you will see how this car has progressed from an old time racer to the one in the second photo.

 

Thanks to Hambers F & J and wbrw32 - both have been very helpful in solving problems with the pilot bushing and flywheel. Now all these parts are in place and working properly.

 

Man those Caddy motors look good. Your progress looks great. Are you working on a the three window too?

 

Caddy motors do look good! As for the three window in the pic to the left, it went to a new owner about a year ago. Since then I have acquired a 34 five window, and there are some pics of it in my thread on 33-34 Ford coupe bodies.

Thanks, Tim! As always, I appreciate your comments. Getting tired of staring at all the parts for this build sitting in my garage and basement - it's time to stay motivated to finish the project.

 

Wish I lived closer. I'd love to come by and visit. Its so hot here I don't even feel like getting the cabrio out. I do now and then for a short cruise.

 

Working on the front brakes today - repro 1939 Lincoln 12 inch self-adjusting brakes on the front with 59 Buick drums.

 

Should be plenty of stopping power with these brakes, and the Buick finned drums always look good - took me awhile to find a good set. The engine and trans are set back about three inches from the stock location, so working on building the clutch linkage. Looks like a stock 34 Ford clutch shaft and lever installed in the 39 trans may be the best solution. Will post some pics when I get it all working.

 

Over the years I have obtained many early Ford mechanical parts from my friend Terry - he has a large shop full of old flatheads, top loader transmissions, torque tube rears, and many other parts.....here are some pics....

 

Terry works very hard to find, collect and preserve thousands of early Ford parts - and many have benefitted by being able to find what they need to finish that early Ford V8. Today I picked up a set of NOS 40 Ford front drums and a few other parts.
