Blasted the old headers. Still look solid. Cool! Don’t have to fab new ones! Especially since it doesn’t have your off the shelf parts. Everything is custom fabricated. Gonna running Short pipes, with short Cherry Bomb M-80’s coming out the side, in front of the rear wheels. Aught to wake up that Flatty!
Having a wonderful time trying to get my shocks to clear they just rubbed a little bit before on the hairpin, So I chopped mounts down about an inch and a quarter. But now it’s real close to the perch and shackle. So with the right spacer on the bolt, it will be just…. Centered…. Enough… Darn custom build stuff! But thats what makes it neat from off the Shelf Parts, and Kits. Enough to drive you crazy sometimes! But worth it!
Shocks done, just need to pull them back apart and paint everything, reassemble then start on the body.
Just got back from a little Vacation at the coast. (Boy we needed It!) Got a little Garage time today! I had a plan to stick to painting the shock mounts and fender braces and then work on the exhaust. But I got a little sidetracked when I decided to see how easy my Brillo wheels I was using on the fender Braces, would strip the Body paint and I decided to start where I saw some Bondo showing, and of course that led to grinding it all off! Found a little fun underneath! Not too bad though. Apparently they just Bondo-ed over the dents, and used way to much. so I’m gonna work the dents a little bit and then just skim coat it. I have to figure out how to strip the doors without digging into whatever might be underneath. I don’t wanna strip whatever filler might be on them.
The shocks were topped out with the Spacer I added to spring. It was really close before anyway. It would go down a little with the weight on the car, but you really want it in the middle of the stroke at Ride height! So now the front an d rear should be right in the sweet spot! Along with the Traction bars being more Close to Henrys angles, This thing should Ride and Handle so much Better! Cant wait to see!!!!
Front is Done Too now! Fab up some exhaust, Mount the running boards temporarily, because they are coming out the side. and then start back on the Body! Yaay!!
Got one side of the exhaust mocked up, and tack welded! I wonder how loud a Flatty will be with 3/4 length 1-3/4 pipe with 2-1/4 tips? Should be Quieter then a Harley. Oh well we will see, if I don’t like it, I can Always add mufflers later. I just want to build the car and get it drivable. It ought to sound bitchin though!
I haven't seen cu and splice exhaust in a while! Looks good though. Should sound pretty good. Flatheads aren't very loud.
Thanks! Yeah, I don’t have a tubing bender. Plus I’m “repurposing” the old Exhaust, and “Reapplying”(routing) it Differently! The chrome tips are some tubing my neighbor gave me that was part of some type of fancy garage shelving! All Home Built stuff! Supposed to look like some kid did it in the 60’s Right?
Both sides done! Just have to pull them off and finish weld and paint! Probably hang them on the wall until Im ready for them! (Running out of wall Space!) Also Did some fun Hot-Rod scoops on the tips! Groovy-Man!!!
Last bit of inside stripping before wire wheeling cleaning, filling coating. I am so grateful the wood and metal inside is all intact and still good! Just tighten the screws, and new nails!
Well The Fun stuff has begun! Stripping all that Lacquer!!!! Man I hate body work!! Fixed the dents! They are alot better then when they were covered up before! Wont have as much filler this time!
No. Not this one. Too Many Curves! Plus its the Doll! You guys did talk me into filling the cowl light holes! But…..I have a plan! I’m gonna put them down on the frame horns underneath the Fenders. Depends on where the curve is which side the frame. I’ll put it Plus I’m making Nerf bars out of 37 Ford Bumper-ettes.
Thanks! I actually like fixing the dents and stuff. It’s all the stripping and sanding and body filler….. and sanding….and body filler and primer and sanding…and…. Lol!
Well it looks like the Jasco routes going to work!!! Less than 10 minutes to do this to the original Lacquer!!!
Well… after several burns… and weird taste in my mouth! I got all the Black paint off the Front! Just the rear Drv Quarter and the body will be easy to finish to shiny new metal! (Fenders doors and hood, I can do one at a time on saw horses!) The Hard part is done. Just need to Fill a bunch of bolt holes, few stress cracks, Por 15, seam seal, and undercoat. Sounds like a lot, but not really. How is it my whole garage ends up on the floor every time in less than an hour!!! Cant wait to get at least the shell Back on the chassis!!! YAAY!!!
Love My Work sometimes! We have a punch press, so I made a “hole” bunch of plugs for various holes on the fire wall and floor boards and such!
Man time flies! It’s been almost a month since I’ve worked on the 33! The wife’s getting sick of me out in the garage all the time so I had to stop and do some honeydews!!! Looks like there’s a lot more too! I’m retiring in 5 1/2 years and I’m gonna leave this godforsaken state of California and go to some other state and not tell them where I’m from!!! Don’t worry if I come to your state , I’m not one of those lefties. I’m an old-school Northern Californian like the Hank Junior song says!!! Anyway we got 25 years of crap we need to get rid of so we don’t drag it with us across country!!!! Back to the doll!!! Got the body all stripped of paint finally! Just got a hand- sand it, to smooth it out! Got most of the underneath of the floorboard cleaned up just got a finish that tomorrow, and then the inside and I'll start to weld the holes up then I can fix the dings in the body. Then start coating the inside and the underneath! Won't be long before I get the body back on!!!
