I forgot to mention, I’m probably gonna use that rustoleum on the bottom of the body in the inside of the body, and then I have a rubber undercoating I’m gonna put on top of that.

Just like White firewalls, a light colored floor is useful for driver cars you work on.
Leaks are easily spotted and more light under there when crawling around.
You can use body shutz (like the rockers of German cars) or a bedliner like U-Pol in a light color to do the job of the undercoating, which is always black.

Here’s a few pictures on how I took the rear leaf apart, for those who care or have not done it before, just work your way back and forth with the clamps so it doesn’t fly apart on you, when you put it back together you need to put the bolt in so they stay together. I’ll show you how to do that when I’m ready.
    Thanks

Well there’s still black paint on there from the last time we did it, I thought it would’ve wore off from flex

Springs are serious business in the careful department...spreading and install requires equal care...hope your getting some help moving things...I've had doubles...well both sides once...and that's enough...good stuff...

Hey, did you make motor sounds when you got those plates registered...:p

I love Having a Hydraulic press at work!
Made a 3/4 thick spacer to add to the top of the rear Con-caved-double arched spring! To gain tire to fender clearance for My deep dish wheels!
Actually went a little more curved then needed! I’ll tweak it tomorrow!
    IMG_1504.JPG IMG_1505.JPG IMG_1506.JPG
Actually doing the reverse in the front, taking the spacers off the top of the spring, and putting one on the bottom to lower it about 3/4 of an inch!

So 33 did you Pin that 3/4" spacer/shim to the crossmember with spring pinning to the spacer or bolt to spring pack then pin to crossmember?

My Sport Coupe has a relaxed or near foul condition so adding 3/4 or so is a consideration...that pin is damned important for so many things...

Then there is ride/ spring to model and weight to spring...My Coupe rides a little Hard...

I’m gonna bolt it to the spring pack, like its just an extra
Thick short leaf and square the head of the bolt like the stock bolt to fit in the square hole, in the crossmember, but I have to flatten the spacer a little, I arched it a little to much. Hope
    that makes sense?

So.....Heres what I did to a few of the leaves to show you all how I radiused the edges and took off the burrs on the leaves. I didn’t go as radical as I did the front spring years ago, for a couple reasons, I don’t want to heat up the metal too much to lose the tension, and if you take too much off it might make it sag, or chip off the ends....So just enough to chamfer the edges to smooth it out, then I’m gonna paint the leaves and put new poly-ethylene black liner between the leaves, and may be a little bit of grease. I’ve done that in the past, and the spring moves so well, that the car actually sits lower sometimes, because it’s not binding at all!

I also made 3/4 inch spacer to fit on top of the rear spring. To lift the rear of the car 3/4 of an inch, and I then made a 3/4 inch spacer to go on the bottom of the front Spring pack to lower the front 3/4 of an inch, after I take off the 3 thin spacers that are currently on top of the spring pack.
    Picture example:
    IMG_1525.JPG

And for the model a guy...I don’t know what pin he’s talking about, but I am using the stock center hole on the spring, to bolt everything together just like a normal spring pack, including the spacers.

It’ll all make sense, once it’s put together!!

Good that you beveled the ends of that block. Learned the hard way flat straight block on an OT vehicle with no bevel it had like 2-3 inches from the flat edge of the block before the spring started to curve but still the Main leave in contact with the block BROKE exactly at the edge of the block after maybe 6 months of use.

Spring bolt which acts as alignment pin only gotcha...:D...no other pins...smooth and lubricated wins the race...;)

The Springs also have those “C” shaped clamps, with the bolt locking the bigger leaves from twisting.

Yes! that is exactly why I did that.
Plus if you look closer, I put a slight arch in it also.
The block on the front spring, is just basically a filler so the The U-bolt
clamp/plate doesn’t bottom out on the cross member, from having to many leaves/ spacers out.
    You probably already knew that.

  17. Great job! Thank you for the visual on end radius and chamfer. I need to do the same and wasn't sure how far I needed to go with it.

Do the liners stay in place or do they shift/squeeze out over time?

A bigger shop means a bigger mess.
You just need to concentrate on a single project at a time!
    Did I just say that?

Yeah I know, but it’s for a friend who passed away two years ago. I’m selling it for his wife. She knows it’s worth a lot of money, so I’m gonna make
It a little more safe, and somewhat reliable to get her some more money. then also make a little bit extra cash for the ‘33 .
Its a-win win for both of us.
but of course it’s like opening Pandora’s box!
And if I charged her labor, she would just have to sell it, and give me the cash! ....But we all went to church together, and that’s what we do.

I don’t think I’m gonna take on something like this again though!
I just know Bronco‘s in and out.
And don’t want her to get screwed!

I think it’s also because I miss my 71 Bronco, and sold it before it was worth a bunch of money dammit!

It will all work out in the end.
