Some other parts... And a nice 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Engine 2 Need to disassemble and get them to the machine shop! I’m gonna be racing my son on disassembly. I have another couple engine stands but can’t find my locking bolts... They are the same size/thread pitch as the head bolts but 2-3” longer. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
This trans bolts directly to this block with the help of the bellhousing... Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
the trans in the photo is an overdrive tranny, (not the newyork kind), and it should require the 1/2 bell
that bellhousing is for a trans with a flat front mount, more like modern stuff. your overdrive mounts on a 1/2 bell, similar looking to the rear of the earlier ford flathead blocks
in this link from vanpelts sales, the bell on the left is the 1/2 bell you need to use that trans. the bell on the right is what you have, only that looks to be cast iron, and yours looks to be steel, what ever, those are for a more conventional looking trans with a flat front http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/FH_images/FH_trans-pics/Flathead_Bellhousings_1949-52merc.jpg
Not sure what "above" you mean? To bolt that transmission to the back of the late flathead block you will need a 1/2 bellhousing like they said. It's a ring about 4" thick that bolts to the block, then the trans bolts to it. They were made in stamped steel, or cast iron. Those two interchange just fine. When buying a cast iron one look them over closely as they are commonly cracked.
6411 is a gasket. And 6825 is an angle bracket to attach the plate to the oil pan, not really needed. You won't need any of the 1952 era stuff.
It has 2 shifter linkages on the side... I thought an overdrive was irrelevant of amount of gears Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
An overdrive is like a bicycle with two sprockets on the crank - two ranges. The transmission is like the 5 or 6 sprockets on the rear wheel. Sent from my SM-T350 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Tire removed at my buddies shop. So much easier than doing it by hand. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
