Hey all I need to change fuel pump on 322, it has the vacuum on bottom type fuel pump. Question, do I need top replace with sdame type of fuel pump or can i do one without the vacuum?
On most cars so equipped, the vacuum portion of the pump was there to supplement engine vacuum for a more consistent operation of the windshield wipers. Typically, when accelerating or pulling hard, on a long hill for example, manifold vacuum decreases and so does wiper operation. The pump minimized that problem. Ray
If you'd rather have a fuel pump without the vacuum pump on it, look for an AC #4297. They were used on Buick nailhead powered medium duty Chevy trucks.
