I was then able to bolt the new panel in place.
It did take a bit of adjustment, hence the small piece of timber at one end.

This is one very cool thread. I don't think the build is exactly like a '32 but the essence is the same. By the way, if there are any Photoshop gurus out there could you work that Edsel nosed roadster so that the grill is up-side down? I think that could be a great track nose look for a modest price. Thanks.

Well, there it is. Not finished, but it is perfectly clear that he has done it! Started with a VW September 30, I think, and a little more than 3 weeks later he has a slightly miniaturized body that I believe would look good to most fans of real '32's.
If you look in at the side rails, it looks like it will have good structural strength once flooring goes in, and everything seems to flow very successfully.
This is an amazing tour-de-force, some of it accomplished with technology from outside general automotive practices.
I know his plans differ, but I'd love to see this done as a mini-early Ford...early Ford 8hp grill shell, the '32 style bumper used on the first year, and a chassis and axles from something in the Ford 8/Anglia line of descent...all that stuff looks early Ford done in scale just for this!

Certainly not your fault, some of us are easily distracted by bright lights and shiny things, or different twists on hot rods.:confused:;)

Nice! We have a gent here, in Kennewick, WA, that did the same thing! Built a '34 style roadster from a beetle. Turned out great- have fun!!

How does the width and length of the body compare to an original?

I've got a measurement of 88'' from firewall to rear of body and a width of 51.5'' at the widest point behind the doors.
From the information I can find, this is within a couple of inches of the original body.

  13. Jumping in again here, very impressive progress!
Glad I'm in here again and glad it's back!
BTW, a little more on the 215 Olds.
In turbo form, 1963, which fits the parameters,
that little engine got 215 HP. That's 1 HP per cube!
Some even had a water injection option, but I'm
    foggy about that.
And they weighed way less than a SBC.
If the Rover works as a direct replacement,
I'm sure a turbo set up could be purchased for not
too much. I just saw one today that was removed years ago!
    Keep on man keep on!

English Gent is so inspired by the response to his BeetleDeuce project that he is already planning the next build. He is going to recreate Hirohata's 1950 Mercury custom out of a Sears 8 hp riding mower ! :D:D I'll be watching.

Clearly, that rocket fluid has a positive effect on the fair sex, as well as on the intake charge.

  18. Not hyjacking thee thread but....
    Ha ! I love it!
    I had a no-turbo 61 Olds in the mid-60's.
I wanted to find a turbo but picked up
a little old lady Dodge Royal with
the Red Ram Hemi and Olds fever was over
    till my 63 Delta 88 with "Ultra-High" compression 394!
I still think a turbo Olds is very cool, Bi Atlantic,
    and in traditional time period.
What more can you ask for!
I bet they are still all over in England.
    They used them in everything!
    Too bad for US!

Alright time for me to tell the truth I have other cars a 2008 Z4 and I did road race a 70 2002 bmw and they have a neat little 4 banger but my 56 100 6 Healy motor I have been told is the same as the Austin bus engines loads of Tourqe But a Cortina lotus engine might be fun to those little Kent motors can make some good power to I built a super 7 with bmw engine and I ran like stink !!

I'd like to see updates too, but I'm not gonna harrass this guy too much--he's done more since septembe than I've done in the last two years on my own stuff.

    Hi guys, welcome back.
The opening for the trunk lid isn't square, and requires an insert to address this.
    Here we go....

  27. :)
I'm telling ya, there's a bunch of metal and metal work in a deck lid opening.
    It's like it never ends.

    Awesome!
When you go to register it, will it be considered a VW?
