Hey fellas, Will a 32 passenger car grille shell and insert fit over a stock 4banger 28/29 model A radiator? I'm guessing that I'll need to cut off the model A radiator filler neck, fill it in and get a elbow shaped filler neck and cap soldered onto the back of the top tank, but will the deuce passenger grille fit over the radiator? My understanding is also that I will need to trim off around 2 inch off the bottom sides of the deuce grille shell to make it clear the front cross-member? My 28 roadster currently has a stock 4 banger radiator and sitting on a model A frame.
Pictured; a '30/31 roadster with an aftermarket shell and insert, stock radiator- I got one with a solid top and drilled my own hole for the filler because I didn't know if the stock '32 hole would line up. Went right on , no problem. If you want a solid "peaked" top, filler neck has to go on back like you said. Nice looking car you've got- clean as a pin!
Thanks for your reply and comments Mike, your roadster looks great! 30/31 Model A's have the same grille dimensions as 32 Fords, a deuce grille should fit over an improved A radiator. Early A's are a little wider...
That's a Nice Looking Roadster Dude!!! Leave it the way it is!!............(...It's your car so do whatever) A 32 shell would make it look more "Main stream"
Stock shell got the nod and the car got a new owner. I run the stock shell on my current roadster. (avatar) I like the '32 shell on coupes ( sometimes!) but my coupe now has the stocker on it (4 bolts and it's changed!) I've got to agree with the Board though- your car looks pissah as is! (BTW- that's a compliment of the highest degree here in the NawthEast)
A-boned. Leave the 28/29 shell on .Looks perfect that way. That's what I did on my 28 RPU. Bob........
I had hoped I'd get some great information on a deuce grille swap on my 29. I was not expecting the replies I've received. Seems I may have to rethink my plans, thanks to all that posted.
To answer your question, read the following article. http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/paint-body/1012sr-1932-ford-grille-shell/
You will need a different size radiator to use a 32 shell on a 28-29 Model A. The stock radiator is wider.
