I used a 29 rear crossmember and spring in my
32 frame. The rearend has a v-8 quickchange
    center section.
Here's the problem, the stock 32 gas tank won't
clear the crossmember and the quickie will punch
a big hole in it on a good Missouri road!
Cutting and notching the tank is pretty major on
a Deuce tank, because of the pinch weld and compound
    curves.
Is there there a company out there that makes a steel
top that a person could fab a bottom onto?
I hate to cut up a nice original, but..........
I'm sure this is a commom deal with this installation.
I would like to here some suggestions and solutions
from you guys that have been there.
    Thanks, Mike

  2. i have used a model A crossmember and rear spring in a `32 frame....i knotched the crossmember to clear the lip of the `32 tank so i didn't have to mess with pinched weld of the lip.. but the tank had to be cut out to clear the quick change...it's not hard to do, i think R &C had an tech article about doing it a couple years ago...make sure you pressure check it and seal it when your done... also make sure you notch it enuff to get the cover off and the gears out

of course, if it's used tank , you have the fumes to deal with....if you don't feel comfortable doing it....have a pro do it

  3. Gets a little tight don't it... [IMG]?

The other concern comes about when you want to change the gear around..., you should allow for the back cover to clear the gears when removed as well as having clear access to the fill port and all other wrench points.

Unlike me..., Most people just run the one gearset and don't have to deal with this problem at all once it is on the street.

And if they do decide to change the gears around..., they have to drop the whole axle by disconecting the suspension to get at the rear cover!

I put Q/C's in cars to change gears...!!! Idle the car to an event a thousand miles away..., turn the gearset over and pull stumps when I'm there!!! [IMG]

Yeah, I"d like to keep it as a quickchange
    instead of the "longchange" deal.
I did pick-up on the fact that I would need a
pretty big notch in able to change the gears.
I know about the old gas tanks and cuttin torch deal.
Man that does scare the hair right off your head!
Ever thought of lightin off a tank on purpose, then you would be ready to cut away.
I wonder if there is enough vent area??[IMG]
Hey scarylarry, if I decide to buy a vintique tank
instead of cuttin up the gennie, I'll let ya know.
    Thanks guys,
    Mike
