I'm looking for examples of custom grill inserts for a 32 Ford shell, something like these 2 grills.

    Mesh. Bullets, Bars, Mesh.......anything different.

These were popular custom touches in the 50s - 60s....Now, I don't see too many people doing this.

I think you should send your sentiments to Gene Winfield. He built the one on the right.

I hate to be pedantic, but I don't think the "one on the right" is even a '32 grille shell.

    Agreed. It's a 35 truck.

  6. As far as I'm concerned even Gene Winfield can't improve the look of a Deuce grill,,I never cared for trying to make customs out of hot rods. HRP

Hard to improve upon, but here is one that Jim Rench did for us in 1979.

Nice to see something different in a sea of "the same". Easier said than done, because different can be bad....

Seriously guys.....he's looking for period examples of how things were done by some builders, well within our focus era.
If we limit ourselves to only the mods and styles that were done then and are now STILL 100% loved...it's gonna be a pretty boring place!

It's a valid question that doesn't require any argument...just some pictures!

the green one on the left isn't so bad I guess but that GW thing I never liked much at all. To each their own though.

I would like to see some pictures too. I wish I had something to share. That green vehicle in the first post....is that the little truck that I saw at the Autorama a year or two ago? I'm sure I've seen it here before as well. I would like to see better shots of that grill, can't tell much about it from that angle.

  17. mine's custom...built by me and hey, it works. custom is in the eye of the beholder...frankly I detest door pull grills. Thanks for mentioning that one, 3WLarry

NVRRDUNN, that looks good. In my opinion, if they have bars at all, they must be vertical. Horizontal bars throw off the whole car somehow.

After looking at a couple of posts above, I rest my case. BTW, OP - I don't think it is proper to "quote" a post and then modify the quote.

I would like to see a grille inspired by the Pines Winter Front - not so much the louvers but more the heavy center piece that kind of splits the grille in two....... my description sucks, but in my imagination it looks good!

I really like that roadster, it's a very cool old hot rod. What kind of grill shell is that ? It doesn't look like a Deuce shell.

I have a truck that I built that is a little on the OT side of the HAMB, but I would rather drive a Kia with flames than put one of those pieces in ANY 32 Ford.

woven mesh mounted diagonally might work with divider bar down center for a high dollar look.
