Dropped a GM style HEI distributor in my 318 POLY. I had 1 wire from the ignition switch to a ballast resister. From the resistor it split with one wire to the solenoid, and one to the coil. I know I'm supposed to eliminate the ballast.

My question is, what is the best and safest way to run the wires?

    Thanks in advance.

From the switch to the coil to eliminate the resistor. The wire from the solenoid to the coil is to power the coil while the motor is cranking. Your going to have to modify the bottom of the HEI to fit in the polly motor.

I do agree with George, the Mopar electronic ignition 318 dist is a drop in for the ploy 318, and is a good system. Gene

There are HEI distributors available that are designed to fit the SB Mopar engines. I figure thats what he has already.
Elimanate the resistor. HEI's like full voltage.

Be sure to run a heavy enough wire to power the HEI, not the stock 14 or 16 ga one!

I'm running a Mopar Performance distributor in my 318 Poly. I'll have the installation manual in the shed somewhere if you're interested. And I'm not running a resistor and have done 18000 miles with no problems.

    As a "recovering" Mopar Guy...The HEI's just don't look right...on a Poly...or any Mopar...10 cents.

  8. All Mopar A, 277/301/313 and 318 poly and LA 273/318/340 & 360 use the same dissy hole and drive so ANY dissy that suits one suits all BUT the wiring etc could be a different animal.......I have a 318 Mallory YL dissy in my 318 Poly and also a mopar HEI and fake Magneto for it......all fit in the same hole........likewise a factory 318 electronic dissy fits there too........just remove the ballast resistor.......btw Gidday Pete....andyd

Just take the wire that goes to the resistor and run it straight to the distributor. You don't need the one from the starter anymore

Like has been said, HEI doesn't use a resistor, they need the full 12 volts
