Working on preparing the A for the channeled floor removal. Original rails are shot. Can anyone advise how and where these rails are attached to the sheetmetal on the body? I have found a few rivets at the braces but on my body can’t see any spot welded locations. Due to the state of my hacked floor I am flying blind on the reassembly method other than a few pics I’ve found of others projects. Any help is appreciated!
Been a few years since I did a A , if i remember correct ,cowl panel has a 90ish lip & is spot weld along bottom to sub , ( like cowl to door jam A pillar) & there should be another brace from sub rail to firewall, & if you do not have that brace /support its not reproduced,
Thank you! Are the lower cowl and 1/4 panel bottoms spot welded to the subrail? Only welded spots I can find are the door opening brackets welded to the rail. Outer Sheetmetal skins are not attached on my car. Not sure if this is correct?
Im not @ my shop to look @ 1 of the As Headed to Pro Stick race, If no one Else chime In before I'm back, I will take a look & pics , Im sure its tacked across bottom, Or maybe crimped , its been 10 years since I did compleat sub rail , On my 32's I know its spot weld along bottom
This may offer some help. There is a ton of info on this web sitr Model A Ford Garage ~ 1930 Model A Coupe Body Assembly
I always thought the outer skin was just folded around. Maybe a tack weld at the corners, but mostly just folded under, and up. Making a perfect trough to hold water and debris and rust out. Same thing on 26-27 T bodies.
looks like your subfloor extensions have been narrowed, they are $300 a pair new... i have some used if the shipping isnt a deal killer... mine still have the toe boards attached... pm me...
HI here's some pics, there are usually 4 to 6 spot welds in the bottom flange lip holding the cowl panel on later kb
